trying to make 1st sequence...

i have some real basic questions.. so here goes the first one (thanks in advance for help)..

i hear my program in program-mode, but in main-mode i select the same program (actually its called part in main-mode and multi 1 has part 1 assigned to the correct program) -tap the pads and i don't hear it.. (out-1 is set to part)

i dont really understand the question. it sounds like you'd want to read the section in the manual that talks about assigning programs (or 'drums') but im not exactly sure what it is you're saying

me neither...please rearrange the question,make it more simple (at least for me it's got to be )

read you mpc4k manual about multi, parts and keygroup/programs (if i understand your saying)

Props to chilom for figuring out ccone was talking about the 4K.

(mpc4000) when i hit the PROGRAM BUTTON i see the one program i put into the autoload folder via aksys, i hit the pads and hear the sounds ok.

now, i go to the main screen, mute is off, i set OUT to PART and i set PART to 1 and then the program i mentioned above, hit the pads and then hear nothing. i following the user guide step-to-step and not sure what to do now...

called akai tech support, they said even though i'm using the latest op system (1.71) i should reload op system because it sounds like a software error. i don't know much about the 4000 but i have a feeling akai has really washed its hands of it -doesn't want to support it.

again, thanks for responses - when i get better at this thing and can help other members in the future i will definitely do so...

by the way - how do you delete stuff out of the 4000's memory? the only way i could get only one program in memory is to put the program in autoload and then restart..

- first build a program (done as your hear some sound)

-go in multi mode, assign the program to the first part.

- in multi mode make sure that out is set to OFF. if you have some audio cable hooked in the main out, then you should hear some sound there too.


from the mpc4k manual :

In order to play a program that has been loaded into the sampler section, you must assign that program to a
Part. You can think of a “part” as being the settings that a program need in order to play back; e.g., volume,
pan, and output jack assignments.

i swear - this thing is not easy - i have a bachelors degree in engineering and the 4000 is more complicated than most electrical engineering work i do - without mpc-forums.com i'm screwed!

in the midi section the drum pad was not set to sequencer. but thanks chilom regarding multi's too - they are like baskets you put programs in - my only question is why? why not let the program provide the routing (etc), also, since we have to use multi's why not automatically assign programs to the multi?... -c

it sounds to me like it was designed so you could reuse Programs in different Parts... for example, building a song using a specific drum kit, where the song has sonic changes, you could put the same program in different parts and assign the parts to output to different FX or processors/ outboard gear, etc..... in that`case you would want to set the Part up per your intentions instead of having to edit a preset Program, which is what it sounds like to me that you are describing having to do.... =)

another novice question - you mentioned PARTS (we have to deal with parts in addition to programs and multi's), book says parts are for (vol, pan, output) and multi's allow programs to be played from sequencer. Whats an easy way to think of the relationship between PROGRAMS-PARTS and MULTI'S...?
