I sampled some strings and played out a groove with it. I layed the kicks and snares on a seperate track. When I play them together they cancel out. like the strings disappear and come in and out intermittently.

Seems like the MPC 1000 wont let me play the drums and the strings at the same time. If I mute a track, the other plays fine. If I solo the track that track plays without problem. But if I play both together, the string gets shut down intermittently. This seems to happen with base samples as well.

but funny thing is, if i sample a loop and chop it up, even if its a complex loop with lots of strings and basses i can layer a beat over it without any cancellation of one track over the other.

I'm wondering if this has to do with the fact that my string sample is a single one shot sound or something? any kind of settings i need to change?

are all of your samples in one program? if so go to the program parameters and change them to play poly. maybe you have multiple tracks playing the same program, and thats what would happen if the program is set to mono.

Make sure your sounds are not in a "mute group".

this is an extremely easy problem to fix

first of all, make new programs for your different sounds(I.E. DrumPRG, SynthPRG, BassPRG, RtfmPRG)

second of all, RESEARCH POLY/MONO in your program mode; you can set the whole program to mono, which means that each pad will cut off the previous pad being played. OR set it to POLY and the sounds will overlap. You also have the option to set the individual pads to mono/poly in order to define whether or not that particular pad will cut itself off when played again without effecting the entire program.

Third of all RESEARCH MUTE GROUPS(i.e. using one pad to mute another pad, good when using drum breaks that loop)

it is all explained well in the manual, but if you grasp this basic concept it will make your music making experience much greater.

no more missing sounds. The machine does what you tell it to do. : )
