Which Monitors

I am looking at some monitors to buy. I want to make a substantial investment in my monitors because I don't want to be unhappy, and the sound of my productions will mean everything. I had JBL's when I dj'd and I loved everything about them, so I am going to buy them now as well. I was looking at these JBL's

The only thing is that these are 12" which is a little too big.

Any thoughts or experiences with these?

I've heard the 28p's and they sound pretty damn good to me. Just a little out of my price range tho. The guy at Guitar Center told me that they auto adapt to the acoustics of a room no matter how big or small it is. Thats pretty damn cool if u ask me.

I had the same problem I did alot of digging and made alot of calls to gather opinons and I ended up running with a pair of M audio Bx5a's.
They're in a nice size room and I turn the actual monitor volume on back up 3/4 of the way and They shake the whole house. The highs are really crisp also. I got mine for $250 out the door but they run $299 a pair.
In my digging I was told 50 watts and up and your in the right range and these are 70 watts. I cant front, when I saw them in person I was skeptical because they're not really big but when I got them home and sat down I was truly impressed and I didnt miss the money at all. They have a the woofer is made of Kevlar that bullet proof vest stuff so its pretty durable.
Check em out. It was between them and the KrK RP5's which run the same amount but on average I was told by different guitar centers from different states that in an A&B test the Bx5a's win!

What would you choose, the LSR 8" or the Mackie 824?

Not familiar with anyone of those. Im an MC that produces so all the technical terms and equipment are still pretty new to me. One good piece of advice Ive learned is "It doesn't matter!" I was trying to figure out which pre amp I needed and I said under my breath that Just when I think Ive finished buying up shit, I end up needing something else. The guy in the store said you'll never finish. As soon as you buy something something newer, bigger, better, cheaper, louder, more user friendly comes out and it could be from the same company. Just make sure whatever you do buy stands up to other things in its price range as far as specifications are concerned and get it. As long as its not a piece of shit your good.

it's easy to get caught up in the gearlust. the truth is you only need what you need. if you don't want to be unhappy with something later, don't buy anything you don't need. you don't NEED new monitors every 6 months just because something shiny and new came out. you NEED monitors that will reveal the sonic characteristics of the music you are producing.

here's the thing tho, unless you are creating a studio from scratch and can control the shape of the room, the location of your monitors and sound characteristics of your room can change the sound coming out of the monitors. BAM, those nice monitors you paid so much for are now no sonically better than whatever you thought was too low priced or cheaply made before.

all i'm saying is try not to waste money on expensive monitors and then forget to factor in the cost of treating your room, otherwise you're just wasting money.

if you've used JBL's in the past and are comfortable with the way they reproduce sound, that is worth a lot in terms of what brand to get. stick with what you are familiar with and you'll be happy. on the other hand, don't be afraid to try out something new. use the JBL's for a comparison test.

Should I get the 8 inch lsr or the 6 inch? I know its still a personal preference. I wouldn't mind getting the 8 inch and spending a little bit more. Then again I don't want to get 6 inch and then a year from now not like them and get new monitors. Is there a big noticeable difference.

I just got a quote for the JBL lsr4326 6 inch studio monitors, brand new for $700. I need to order them tomorrow if I want the price. I was wondering also, if I can get the price down for the 8 inch to $1000 brand new, do you think I should go with them instead? Any advice immediately would be appreicated.

I get the feeling that in this case your concerned about the hype. Sometimes the size of the product doesnt matter. I remember when I was looking for monitors I was looking for something that was going to knock pictures of my walls but thats not what they're for. They are for reference purposes. You want them to be clear and true and to reflect the sound thats coming out un-biasedly. Its not about the effect at this point its about balance and control. Before I got my monitors I was using some phillips home stereo speakers which I still use to this day to give me a second perspective of how It will sound in a regular environment. In short, keep your jbl's because your ears know the sound they produce. Use them as a second set of monitors for an A&B reference. Buy your studio monitors and then swithc between the 2 back and forth.

Can someone recommend as I have to purchase today. Should I go with the 6 inch or 8 inch.

Personally i'd go with the 8's because i havent heard the 6's. But if they sound remotely close to the 8's (prolly not) then get those.

I was able to get the JBL 8 inch for $1100. Originally $1400. Not bad huh?

8's better for basslines and drums in my opinion. good pick up.

not too bad ive seen em for a grand so yea it was a pretty good pickup.
