have no idea where to start..PLEASE HELP

ok i decided im finally going to get rid of FL get an mpc...

i have no idea where to start... i was looking at the 1000 untill i read about all the pad problems and how its mostly jus ment for drums anywase...

i want a 2000xl, but im 16 and jobless and there expencive for me.. i was thinking of getting one from ebay but every time i get something used it ends up being trashed and broken in some way, so im not guna risk it...

looking at the 500...all i kno about it is its smaller and has 12 pads instead of 16...what else doesnt it have? can someone compare the 500 to the 2000xl for me please?

it's true the pad design on the 1000 sucks. there is some talk that the newer ones with the black casings have better pads....

not sure what you mean about it being just for drums. i use it for whatever i need samples of. which is mainly drums, but i don't think i would use any of the other MPC units any differently....

i would suggest you figure out what you want to accomplish with any sampler, then look at the specs and manuals for the different ones in your price range and decide if any of them will fulfill your needs...

so your sain that one will have better pads?..

i don't know about the new ones, i have the older blue model. the pads work fine most of the time. i'd hesitate to use them during a live show but for creating sequences they are just fine. some people say the newer black version has a revamped build quality which makes them better than the blue design but for all i know those people are full of ish....

i played around with the 500 at guitar center a few times but since i already have the 1000 it seemed pretty useless to me except that it is battery powered which means you could take it anywhere for sampling.... then again for less than the 500 costs you could get a small handheld portable like the zoom H4 for field recording/sampling (the H4 is also a 4-track recorder and can triple duty as an audio interface when attached to a computer).

if i were you i would consider getting a used 500 or 1000 and keep saving up for one of the better ones, especially if you think it might take awhile to save the money. you can resell a used model for the going rate when you're ready to upgrade and apply that money towards the new one, and learn the basics of how the MPC's work at the same time....

I got the blue mpc 1000 off ebay and its all good, it's small and light and easier to carry around
