One last question for mpc 2000xl

Ok, i appreciate all the help i recieved thus far.. u guys have been great.
The problem i have with the mpc is.. i cant get the drums to match the melody well.. i'm pretty sure its because i have to play the sample out, and overdub the drums over it.. It comes out pretty sloppy.
I need my beats to be right on.

I was told to use the step sequencer.. but i'm having a lil trouble understanding how to use the step sequencer properly.

Can anyone help?

the step seq is one of those things I can show you easily but is harder to actually explain. have you ever had any experiences using any step time vs realtime recorders with any other situation other than the mpc like a piano roll grids in a some programs or reason's matrix . you have to map out each movement event to event. just hit step on the main screen I think its like f1 or something. it shows you the first event 1st beat, 1st tick 1st bar, press any combo of pads to trigger the 1st sounds for that event, you can change velocity, decay or delete infomation for the pads you press. you can use your locate keys above the transport to move around events to set sounds. if you hit step it moves one event, if you hit bars it moves a bar. on the main screen the timing(normally1/16) sets how fine these events are . thats pretty much it more a step press a sound more a step and keep repeating the process. as you press step and bar the sounds you recorded by pressing the pad will be played back, like an audition of the event
