Turntables, Mixer, MPD or MPC?

I've been wanting too buy a MPC too go with my turntables n mixer.
So I was on akai's website and saw the MPD24
so i was about too buy since I'm limiting myself too 230$ at the most.

I never bought or had an MPC or MPD, so can y'all tell me if it'd be compatible with my turntable's amplifier? this is the back of it

Or do I even need a speaker/amplifier at all?
The man reason I want too work with my turntables is too sample vinyl

I'm a newbie too so you will probably get your answer from some of veterans in this forum, but I'm also in similar situation as you are in. I was looking into getting a MPC(500) and then found out about MPD24.

MPD24 as far as I know is MIDI controller, which you hook up to the computer and use it with your VSTs and those software instruments.

So I don't know if MPD24 has anything to do with sampling anything, but well like I said I'm a newbie.

Post some stories when you get MPD24 though. I'm curious. Because I decided on MPC500 after reading people saying MPD24 is no MPC, and I really wanted my hand on MPC experience.

I checked musicians friend and it says that the mpd24 package includes:

# Included Editor Librarian software (Mac and PC)
# Akai Sample library of classic drum machines (software included)
# MPC 16 Levels and Full Level feature support

I have never used the software personally but I wouldn't expect much from it. If you wanted to use the mpd24 to make beats you would probably need additional software that included a decent sequencer and supported midi. Also to get the midi signal into your computer you would need a sound card or external box that supported midi.

youre not gonna be able to connect the mpd to your amp, youd be connecting your computers audio output into the amp. would probably want tto upgrade from a stock soundcard. especially if youre trying to sample from an external source, as the interface will be what does the actual sampling instead of the mpd. as opposed to the mpc which would do it instead of software/interface/pc.

the mpd has a midi or usb connectivity, so dont necesarily need an interface for the midi part so much as the audio part.

yea the sampling will be done thru your audio interface to your software since theres no audio ins or outs on the actual unit

so djuz, might wanna take a step back and check the complete picture. the mpd would be an alright way to get into using pads n such, but youll still need to get that audio in and out of your computer. to amps and from records. which that unit by it self cant do.

true^...BUT for the same price as a new 1k you could get the mpd24+Guru FXpansion software+download a freeware/shareware sequencer and get a pretty decent soundcard and ya good to go (assuming you have speakers and a computer)[/i]

I'm only 14 so an MPC is kind of out of the way for my money range for now.
The Mpd seems like in the long range with all the software, n stuff y'all telling me could eventually add up too the price of an MPC.

Is there any cheap version of the MPC I can get for around 250$?

if you get the controller you can use it with many different software apps that are available.

plus if you get sound modules you can do the same thing, connect it up with an MPD.

Just be careful though... I had an MPD 24 and returned it to get the MPC...

the Dell D620s MB chipset was not compatible with the MPD24...

but I like the MPC much better anyway... I wish I could have both...

if you want something that will do everything or near everthing an MPC will for $250, the answer is, theres no such thing, an MPD is just a midi controller (i think you need to look into midi more to understand) coupling it with an audio interface and a few different software programs like mentioned before, could give you something like an MPC. but that will cost you near the same amount as a 1000. if your just trying to start out in making beats, and looking for a cheap way to get into it, id suggest fruityloops

you might consider another instrument but if sampling and druming your drums on the pads is the deal you need either an MPC or a MPD with software and an interface if you want to listen to it on a stereo rather than your computer speakers.
