what is the best time swing tempo for Akai mpc 2000xl

How do you know what kind of Swing to use from 50 to 75.
Time shifting earily or late on 1 tru 9 ?
And which will give you the best Swing tempo.
My beats sound like it's in a box. I looking for that groove swing.

this question cant really be answered. it varies, man. depends on the sounds you want and the track

Perfect swing is 66%. But thats not necessarily the setting that sounds the best. Between 50% (no swing) and 66% is the usual range of settings people use. Settings above 66% get progressively weirder but I am sure I have heard El-P use some to great effect.
Experiment with different settings, particularly those around 60% until you get a feel for how it works.
Also, apply swing and then open the STEP EDIT and see for yourself how different values move the notes around.

As far as the TIMING SHIFT goes, that is a whole seperate function although it can be used in conjunction with SWING. You can use it to move a specific sound either early or late to give tension or a laid back feel to your beat.

the only reason why I can see people ask this question is because they cant hear what its doing to their sound. i used to be this way until i figured out that I wasnt actually using it right.

the solution? make sure you hit the pad you are adding the swing to BEFORE you hit DO IT. And dont forget to select which bars you want the swing to be set on. or else it wont do jack
