another noob question.. (dont flame)

hi i just wanted to know what the filter funtion is for..

lets say i've got a beat with bass drums snares strings and vocals

and lets say i want the drums or the snares or the strings or the vocal to fade away so you can use one of them induvidual..

(is this possible)

or is it possible to get close to it...

any reaction is welcome.. because i want to learn more and more about the mpc (2500)

The filter will take the sound that you run it across, and according to the intensity and resonance, will bring out the particular properties that the filter is looking for.
For example, of you have a hi hat sample that has a bit of a kick drum or bass stab under it, if yu apply a high pass filter you can get rid of the low end sounds and be left with the high end sounds, essentially leaving you with just the hi hat sound.
The same things goes for a low pass filter, which pronounces and brings out all low end sounds and gets rid of high end sounds.
The band pass filter can do different things, a common use is as an effect to make music seem as if it's coming from another room or down the hall.
