What MPC Did You Choose And What Made You Choose it?

I ask this because I am at a cross road in my music. I mainly sample and I use Reason atm but I have been debating about going back to hardware. I started off with a EPS classic keyboard and I have experience with my friends MPC 2000 classic tho we only sequenced on it. And then went to Reason because at the time I only wanted to make keyboard beats and didn't know how to make sample based tracks. Now I love samples but I'm not sure if a mp is right for me. I have played with the 2500 and the 1000 at guitar center and like both and don't see many differences between them. I always hear rumors of the mpc 1000 pads not being good and it makes me wonder if I should even waste time on it or go for the 2500 which is a lot more expensive and I don't think Id use many more of the extra functions anyway. I guess I'm saying I need help picking the right MPC and I'm nervous because Im not even sure if a mpc is the right sample for me. I guess this is more of a rant than anything else. What mpc do u use and what helped u make the decision u made?

If money is a big concern for you, and you don't see yourself needing all of the extra features that come w/ a 2500, why not look into a used 2kXL on ebay?? I've heard of people getting some great deals

money isn't really the object here i can always save for it but I dont want to spend towards features i probabaly wont use. i have considered the 2000 classic even but i am also considering an eps or maybe even an as10 but whats really important is that i have all the features i want and need

if i was you i'd definitely consider the 1000. you probably can't tell the
difference between pads just cos you haven't used em much. but once
you start sequencing etc, you'll definitely notice a difference - how much
it affects your workflow really depends on how you work.

but despite the problems with the pads they are super powerful little boxes,
and with the JJ OS some of the 2500 features have been added - grid edit
is my new favourite - and some other new stuff which is pretty sick.

i bought a 1000 just because of the lower price, and the USB connectivity.
If i'd looked into it a bit more at the time, i may have bought a
2500 - but there's no regrets here.

I first bought a 2000xl because it was in absolutely perfect condition and I had a good price on it.

Recently I also bought a 60 because of the same reasons, except the price was a great one.

I bought a 2K classic because that's what my boy had and I knew he would be able to get me up to speed quicker if we had the same setup. I also went with the 2K because I got a decent price on it. HOWEVER, if I knew then what I know now, I would have held off and got a 2kXL instead. But so far the 2k has done everything I need it to do, and I know I haven't exhausted all of its features yet. BUT if I find the right deal and all my other bills are paid at the time, I'll pick up a 2kXL in a heartbeat.

LMBAO. But I gotta agree, that was a factor for me too.

XLse2 pads were softer than the normal grey/white xl.

More active number of programs.

Autochromatic.

All of this I found out between the xl and 2k before I bought it and messing with them in a store.

Another thing to consider is whether or not u want the waveform display for chopping. If you want that then go with an mpc over the asr. Moving on, I am on 2kxl coz I got a good deal on it. Only tihing is that zip drives are slow.. maybe I will get the flash card installation tho, then I'm all set.

Also thought I would add that the 1000 pads can be replaced, if youre worried about crap pads. Search the forum for that.

You should jumped on the internal MCD bandwagon a while back cause now, many places are discontinuing their sales of them.

thanks for the replies everyone. I have decided that I will go for either the 1000 or the 2500 maybe the 4000 but that may be a bit out of my price range. I also am considering a 2000 or 2000xl (what are the differences between the 2000 and 2000xl anyway?) What advantages does the 4000 or 2500 have over the 1000? Is each mpc unique or is it really the cheaper it gets the more watered down it becomes. I was thinking about getting a keyboard style workstation but in reality I can see myself as a complete sampler vs a keyboard dude so I think that a mp may be great for me. Please help
