Hello

although I do not own an MPC I don't know where else to ask this question...

Does any one know whether I can control an akai S1000 with an MPD in order to use as a MPC (albeit an inferior one)

If anyone can help It would be greatly appreciated or if anyone can suggest a more appropriate place to ask this question... cheers

yes but you still need a sequencer of some sort as neither the s1000 or mpd have one.

hmmmm okay!

I am not too familiar with any of the akai products and I am just getting into more sample based stuff... A friend has offered to sell me his S1000 for a very good price and I don't really know its capabilities.
So I guess It sounds ok for me as the main reason for it is to trigger samples on the fly... while other gear is sequencing other stuff i.e. Boss looper pedal/korg electribe and kaoss pad etc

eventually I will maybe save up and get a real MPC haha.. they do sound like the bees knees!

Buy it if the features are for you, why won't you do some homework on that gear BEFORE you buy it?

Aren't you supposed to KNOW what your buying and why?

but on tha real man, it's good to ask questions on the how-to's n sh!t, but if your spending your money..wouldnt you want to know WHAT your spending your money on? or even more so WHY?

HAHA I love forums like this! people get so annoyed at the slightest little things i.e. "I don't have an MPC" OH MY GOD!!! PANIC STATIONS!!!
I do realise that this is an MPC forum but surely my question is related?
I did ask if there was a more appropriate place to ask this question aswell!

anyway for the price asked (a few beers at the pub) I think that the S1000 will be worth taking a risk.

NO, going to your local shop, sitting down messing with it for a few hours, then reading up and understanding what options and features it has and where it can be useful to you equates to finding out about the product....why do you want us to feed you, when you can go feed yourself?

This forum is intended for MPC users, so I mean u kinda de-funk by default...lol...If you having a technical problem with your equipment and CAN NOT figure it out...there is numerous people that will give you info or try and help you out....but you should atleast give it a shot yourself...and use the forums as a last alternative....

Would it even matter? They are using an MPC so the way I look it there already one up on you....Your the type to b!tch about hip hop's present state and whats flooding the airwaves. yet you aint doing a damn thing to change it are you?? other then wine about people that are being sucessful with their mpc's.....strange my man....think some one needs a mic-check!

I did say it was a joke, just winding you up! ... i'm from the uk and we have different ideas of whats funny I guess? but we all know that! right?

also its a little difficult over here (especially where I live) to go into a shop and try something out... the fact is not alot of music stores even sell these things, only on thier online shops... so that means finding out as much as you can online and seeing whether its suitable or not... then buying it and teaching yourself how to use and incorporate it into what you want to achieve.

I'm no dumbass either! I probably just work different to you guys and use different gear..... like I said from the start I wasn't sure whether this was the place to ask!
I love hip hip but I do not make it... I make whatever I feel, I guess you could call it experimental or whatever but whatever it is I'm using all my gear to thier fullest and beyond..... i'm not saying i'm a genious and i'm breaking loads of boundries or anything because i'm certainly not!!! ha.. but Its fun and I like it.

DUDE - EBAY/GUMTREE/LOOT. SEARCH HARD FOR WHAT YOU WANT AND YOU'LL FIND IT FOR A DECENT PRICE. I BOUGHT MY 2K OFF EBAY FOR £350. PRETTY CHEAP. JUST KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED, INNIT BLUD.

hold on this has gone a bit skew whiff! has it not!

My question was can I use an MPD controller to control a S1000 sampler and maybe create a cheap MPC?!!!

My answer came in and it said "No because the S1000 has no sequencer"

problem solved! cheers!

The thing that got me and the reason why I replied the way I did is because of the (not exclusive to this forum by the way) "how da these Ma fackers keep getting in" type comments!........ What Ma fackers are you talkin about? what group of people are you lumping me with? spammers? dumbasses?
I am a musician and have been for 20 odd years but forgive me if I don't know about something that seems so trivial to some you guys!

and dulo I know what you are saying but you do not live in the sticks! london has loads of places to try stuff out! but me' as a non driver living in the sticks its hard to travel along way to try something out so yes ebay/online etc is where I do my shopping!

I apologise for a bit of the pisstaking but with jumped up bigshot forum guys with tons of posts and online respect (that I do not know) replying like that to a simple newbie question then what do you expect!
anyway.... somebody will still probably have a problem with me/any newbie anyway so............ have fun and keep them pads a bashing!

trust me I have learned alot from this forum and still continue to learn... matter a fact I still consider myself a newb aswell...that's not how I was trying to come at you like im any better or skilled then you....

I'm mearly saying that theres some things to ask and there some things to learn on your own...it's all how you go about it aswell...the people on this forum don't HAVE to help any one...THEY CHOOSE TO...so when some one comes in and just expects to get 10 replies that go in to each tiny detail...it's not going to happen...

part of the "high post counts" members are ones that contribute and learn and try and help people in return with the things they learned...

it's a community understand? we all have to help each other to keep it movin proper....you know how many people sign-up try and get help then after they get it the run....so after seeing that so many times why should we help someone that isnt willing to help others as well???

so based on your post count, most people would figure you havent given very much....so how can you expect anything more then what u give yourself....

take it for what it is man....nothing more, nothing less


oh and word of advice for the future and why this subject has went way out to left field...is because your thread starts with "NO MPC HERE"

Hello again! I have decided not to make a new thread about my new question haha... I have searched about it and it seems like a common question.

basically I have had my eye on an SP404 for a while and was in two minds whether to get an MPC500 instead! it was only when my mate offered me a S1000 that I posted the above question... so anyway I am leaning back to my sp404 vs MPC500 quandry!

I have read up on both machines and it seems they do the same things but with pros and cons to both and do them with a different personality.

It seems alot of you guys are split down the middle with this subject as they are the same but clearly different at the same time.. hmmmm am I making any sense?

It seems that alot of people saying the MPC500 is a waste of time have already had experience with its older brothers so its bound to pale in comparison! I have never used an MPC but it feels like the sort of thing that will help with what i'm trying to achieve, as does the SP404....

Ok! I wont be using it to finish tracks they with be mearly there to sample tweak and sequence them then recorded onto my desk ready for adding instrumentation.
I do not use a PC! so any advantages for linking with PCs is not an issue, all my gear is as much analog as I can get plus I hate looking at computer screens ha!
I do alot of field recording and record alot of odd synth stuff on to my multitracker ready to sample... I just need this sampler and I'm not sure which one it would be!?

granted the SP404 is about £170 cheaper but is the MPC worth that much more?

If anyone has bothered to read this haha then I'd love it if you advised me alittle cheers!!!
