Hello everyone,

could you please tell me step by step how to:

1) hook up my MPC500 via midi to the soundcard (so that i can play the drums in Battery).

2) record the Battery-sounds played with Ableton Live.

Would be nice to read some ideas how the three components work best together...

Many thanks in advance!

1. Midi Out Mpc -> Midi In Soundcard

2. Load Battery as a vst plugin in Ableton, select the midi input for that track, arm and play. What i do now for recording is i record in the mpc first till im happy, then record it over to ableton for easier editing. If you want audio just render.

ok my answer was a little bit short, so here some more info:

Setting up the preferences should be really easy, enable "track" for your midi input. On the midi channel you created for Battery click on the arm-button, should light up red. On your mpc (dont really know the 500) choose the correct midi out, channel doesnt matter. Now you should be able to play battery with the pads.

For the recording i forgot to mention one thing. If you are planning to record with the mpc first as i described you have to sync live and the mpc via midi clock. On the mpc activate midi clock out (and mmc if thats available), in live activate "sync" for the midi input (preferences ->midi/sync). Now press "ext" on the main screen of live (somewhere top left) to have it wait for the midi clock. If you press play now on the mpc live should run along.
