Pro Tools echos when i arm rec track

so when im starting to record a track into pro tools from my proteus 2000 (lets say a kick) and i want to fatten it up with a compression plugin the only way i could here that plugin is by arming the record track but when i do that i hear an echo like im getting to audio signals one from pro tools and proteus.

There is a slight delay, I hear it when I track out the MP.
I just turn the Volume down on the MP, and Monitor PT.

On pro tools mbox monitoring is managed by the hardware.

use the mix knob on the box to adjust the balance.

Make sure you mute the record enabled tracks as not to hear the live sound from the hardware and the processed sound that follows with the latency at the same time.

mute the track, ull still hear what your recording when your recording it with out the echo. how are you running protools?

Go to the Options section in Pro Tools, and look for Hardware Engine / Playback. Make sure your buffer zone is set to 256 and lower to kill the large delay. When your finished recording set the buffer zone back to 1024 so the play back engine can handle large mix sessions.

Thanks guys you all help, muting the track did cut the echo but I wasn’t able to hear the plugin. what i was trying to do was hear the plugin fx before i laid down the track and when i got it to where i like the sound then i was going to record but i guess you first have to lay down the track and then mess with the plugins. does that sound about right?

Also make sure you got the Reverb Efx off in the Proteus.

youre hearing both the input and the output at the same time....

track tab> click on input only monitoring or just hit alt+k and youll only hear the input and you wont have to mute and unmute tracks...
