Upgrading mpc1k

Hey guys, I've had a 1000 for about a month now and I realize I need to upgrade this memory... getting the hdm-10, a hard drive, and a bigger flash card does the trick, right? I'll be set? I've read around and I think that's all I need but I still feel obligated to ask. I'm just about to order it all and go into hiding. Also, how do I update the os or whatever? Can someone explain what thats all about?

probably worth upgrading your RAM too - this is like yr workspace.
someone gave the analogy (maybe distortedtekno?) that if yr MP was a desk,
the hard drive is like the drawers, and the RAM is like the desktop.
if you've got massive drawers and a tiny desktop shit gets frustrating.

updating the os is easy. go to akai's site and download it (or save yourself
the trouble and get JJ's OS) move it yr CF... and then the rest of the
instructions are on the akai site.... scope it...

defly get some RAM tho.... probably more important than the HD or CF...

well the hard drive its like it can hold and save your stuff.
same goes for cf card.
the ram is your space what hold samples and all that i say you get the ram and a big cf card but thats just me

i concur, for a couple reasons. a mega hard drive to me would just get cluttered up. transfers via mpc usb to the hd are slow too. which is why i believe its more efficient to get a standalone card reader that operates at usb2 speed and use cf.

im also paranoid about letting hard drives get near unsheilded speaker magnets, which happens frequently with my mpc. so to me i prefer no hd but that ram upgrade is crucial

I appreciate the feedback. Does the hard drive get installed into the mpc? and when loading and saving on the mpc is shows up as an option like the memory card does?

Btw, i first bought a 1gb flash card (at the same time i got the ram), now i have a 100gb hd and dont use the cf at all anymore. Took a while to transfer my collection (like 3 hours) but it was def. worth it.

nice, maybe i'll just get the 1gb flash instead of a 2gb flash then. thats about as low as i want to go. jj os won't give me too many bugs or anything will it? i mean if i install it will i find random bugs on my mpc all of a sudden?

there's a few bugs, but gradually less and less....

and you have to really be pushing the boundaries to find em.
so you may not encounter them for a little while. no offence, just at one
month in.... y'know.

there's a few intuitive things that are just worth getting it for.
i.e. no save bug, and way better file management display.

Alright so now I've got the hard drive/adapter and ram ready to put in, I've been using the search and looking for installment topics but I can't find any, anyone know where I can get directions to do this?

both should have come with instructions, at least mine did.

make sure that the mpc is unplugged first.

the ram is as simple as installing into a laptop. flip over the mpc and unscrew the panel in the middle. i think theres only one panel actually, im not home so i cant look.

once thats off, you should see another card, pull GENTLY out on the clips that are holding it down and it should pop up.

Pull out the old card, install the new card GENTLY making sure that it is firmly seated in the slots. you can tell by looking at the card. the inserted side needs to be flush with the slot that your putting it in.

push down the new card GENTLY until it clicks.

put the panel on screw it back in and fire up that ish.

the screen will tell you how much ram is installed.

the hd is simple too, but its a little more indepth, so im going to skip that one. try youtube. theres probably a ram installation video there too.

ps, definatly get the jj os. i think its a lot easier to use than the akai os, and it has a lot of featurs that the akai os doesnt, which at first may be a little overwhelming, but it would be better to start learning on the jj os. thats what i did. after awhile the other features will come second nature as you need them.
