I've searched still need MIDI help!

Hey everyone.I have searched,read all the forums,watched all the videos on youtube,and read the special midi web site for the mpc 1000.

I am still so confused.I understand that sound is not transfered over the midi cables.But it not clear on how to record the sound.

My question is how do I transfer/record the sound?How can I control the Micron Sound Module?

I have a MPC 1000 and Alesis Micron.
I only have headphones no mixer, monitors,or computer programs.
2 midi cables from in to out and out to in.Local off.

When I listen to the Micron it will use the sequencer from the MPC and record on MIDI/OFF/1a.But the sound is not recorded to the MPC and I can't hear the sound from the MPC headphone jack.

The micron keys will control/trigger the MPC sounds,but the mpc will not control/trigger the Micron on either headphone jack.

Do I need something else?Is there anyway to just use the MPC headphone jack and hear/record both?Can I plug audio out from the Micron into the MPC?Any help would be great.THANKS

Check out www.tweakheadz.com, as is usually mentioned when cats have MIDI questions. MIDI is not sound.

At the very least it sounds like you need a mixer homeboy.

To hear the Micron sounds you would have to plug into the headphone out of the Micron. As you pointed out MIDI data is not sound....

Okay now time for the placeholder to take effect. Midi is not audio, thus no audio gets transferred via midi cable. Micron audio will have to be routed somewhere so you can hear the audio output.

Get a mixer, micron and mpc audio out to mixer. mixer to amp/speakers or mixer to active monitors. midi the same way you have it already.

Does the mpc1k have an active line in, meaning can you play audio through the line in and play a seq at the same time? Figure that out as well. Sit down and spend some time coming out with routing schemes with the gear you have and/or plan on getting.
