Which MPC for a beginner

Hello there guys. I used to own a 1000mpc before but got rid of it as i couldnt get my head round it. Well, lately i have been thinking of going back to use mpcs and was wondering for a novie like me, what would be the best way to start?

Also, am planning on building a studio where the mpc is interconnected with my Pc (cubase and reason) any advice would be appreciated.

1. Get one from a friend, if possible, and try it for a couple of days.
2. Read the manual. Immerse ypurself with the MPC to see if it's for you.
3. Ask yourself, "why did I get rid of it in the first place?" and "What will/is different this time?"

Remember you got rid of the MPC for a reason. I've only used the 1000, and I love it. But I'm also taking the time to learn my MPC. I think that's the key.

well the 1000 is a good first mpc, depends on what you are looking for. ask yourself what u want from a mpc that the 1000 doesnt have and then it will be easier to decide. also check out the mpc comparison forums, and see how the mpc's compare to each other.

I honestly dont have a friend who has one. Im in the part of london where those who are into music making do it via computer etc. I played around with the 1000 when i had it but it had to go because of my wanting to know too much/doing much without focusing on the manual/the basics. (kinda like when you get a new gadget and not knowing the basic or reading the manuals and then you get frustrated ). I have learnt my lesson now and i wanna give it another go again. I hope that clears up all of your questions.
I have noticed the 500 recently and would it be a novice-friendly device or which one am i better off starting with properly this time? Thanks.

How can anyone possibly claim this? some one on ur street probably has one.

I only found out the other day theres a real dope studio in some ones converted garage a stones throw away from me, aparently this dude got mad equipment, accoustic treatment... all the works. He also sells ns 10's and has loads of them and parts, I found out bout this dude coz my boy went to buy some ns10's from him and see his studio.. I still wouldnt have no clue it was there if it wasnt for that sale and chance findin out.

Plenty of people claim theres no scene by them when theres a strong scene they just not part of it so they dont know.

I have not worked on one, not even in the stores, but from what I've read they are mostly for "on the go" projects and have some features missing. I may be biased by saying this, but If I were you, I'd go with the MPC 1000 for 2 reasons: 1. Already had one, so it's not totally foreign (even though most MPC's are the same) and 2. There's JJ OS 4.73 available for $30 via paypal. With JJ OS, which is unsupported by Akai but who gets their support anyway, you get some of the features of the more expensive 2500 in the 1000 model. Read the threads in the forum here to see the features and difference between Akai's OS & JJ OS. Get JJ OS here, Version 3.06 is free:

the 500 seems awesome - main drawbacks in my mind are small screen,
so no waveform visible when chopping samples, and 4 less pads.

i reckon the 1000 is pretty spot on - esp. with JJ's mods, it really turns the
box into a beast.

if you can afford a 2500 - get one.

if not, i'd go a 1000. you can always upgrade laters

Yes

U can start on any mpc, that dont matter its whatever one works for u and what u wanna be doin, coz over time ur skills and techniques are gonna mould via the way u go about doing things, which partly comes down to what equipment u usin and ur own way of working with it
