musician without technology skills like a doctor without PHD

Akai MPC 2500
Apple MacBook
Digidesign Mbox 2 Pro
M-Audio keystation 49e

Reason 3

Ive bought refills for reasons, ive bought sounds for my mpc. What i want to do is use my mpc for all my drums and my reason and fantom for keys. how can i connect everything (in sync)?
My goal is to record tracks onto protools. I want to be able to make each track something like:
TRACK 1: MPC beat
TRACK 2: Fantom x6 keys
TRACK 3: Reason 3
TRACK 4: etc...

and i want to be able to connect them all and play on all them at the same time without having to click REC to hear them out of my monitors (MACKIES). I set it up once, but it was way to hard to work with and i know that there is an easier way to hook it all up. Ive watched a few of your tutorials but i just cant get it all to work. I dont know how to work with the settings of the mpc and the fantom inorder to make them work together.

Ultimately i want to make a bunch of tracks of just drums from all mpc, reason, and the fantom. make a bunch of tracks that are just keys from reason and fantom and put it all together with protools.

If this makes no sense....I think im going to just sell everything lol.

did you just go on a shopping spree? weird how someone would buy such high end equipment and not know how to set it up.

Your gunna need a midi patchbay and the mbox doesnt have enough inputs(if your tracking all outputs on the mpc+Fantom) so pick up a mixer. All those manuals will help too.

What made you go out and buy a bunch of gear that you don't have a clue
on how to use? I'm not gonna clown as it isn't in my nature to do so...but if you want to make music with the gear you have listed here you should focus on one piece at a time until you know how to use it.

i use all this stuff at the studio but i never got to learn how to connect them all and where the wires go...i wanted a little setup at my house but its gettings a little complicated.

The title to this thread kinda threw me off a bit. I thought my man was going to school us on the benefits of having tech skills or something.

Funny how a lot of people simply post shit but apparently they don't have a **** clue either how to help you out.

Not sure If I understood your question right (that part about hitting rec makes me wonder) but usually easiest way is to set up a MIDI transfer protocol in order to be able to use any of your toys as master controllers.
That setup gives you a lot of flexibility and it's damn easy.

All you need is a MIDI device such as MOTU 128 Midi Express (I'm not sure but I think the MBox doesn't have enough inputs) and cables to connect all the pieces of gear.
Then you use MIDI IN/OUT and connect them into the box in the opposite way (IN goes to OUT / OUT goes to IN)

I don't know how Reason's sequencer works but I'm sure you have a possibility of choosing which channel is operated by which device.

For example (I'm a cubase user so might be different) I want to play sounds out of my gigasampler using my MPC:

MPC is connected to MIDI channel 1 in the midi box
gigastudio has it's own dedicated channels.

In cubase I set up new track and as MIDI OUT i select the channel dedicated to the gigastudio.
As MIDI IN i choose channel 1 (MPC uses MIDI channel 1 (in my case) in the MIDI device).
And at this point using my MPC I will be playing sounds from gigasampler.

If you want to use your Fantom to play sounds from MPC for example you simply switch MIDI channels.
You set up the Fantoms port as IN and MPC as OUT in your sequencer.

Repeat same way depending what you want to be controlled by what.

wow thank you...ive tried connecting everything finally...i think my connections are correct...now i think its software related issues im running into.

Im running in and out midi between the fantom and the mbox. im running a thru midi from the OUT of my MPC into the THRU of my fantom. i have audio 1/4'' coming out of my fantom into the 1/2 LINE OUT and 1/4'' coming out of my mpc into the 3/4 LINE OUT. nothing is connected to my aux in/ line L and R (i think thats my problem). and i have mon out (monitors) to my mackies. With this setup i got my fantom to play midi not through protools...but i got it to work with reason. I dont know if its a software issue i have with connecting them.

I still cant get sound out of my mpc (i think there is a wire issue). But the light at the end of the tunnel is close.
