which mp has that swing that knocks??? cause i cant get that out of the 4k!! on whatever percentage i play wit!!!! i looking for that jdilla type of swing!!!!!!

i just did a little research and found out it's done by having the quantize off!!!.... is this true, is that how hi tek or j dilla achieve that feel!!!!!!

And as this is a production question in the future take a little time to search first.

To be honest and many may disagree but as a professional drummer and electronic musician the MPC 3000 ( dilla's unit ) and MPC 60 have a different inherent swing than the other units. That is with quantization however... You can emulate and problably match that programming without quantization but it will take some perfect timing and knowing the rhythm beforehand. Every piece of software and hardware operates on a different algorithm to do it's specified task and while they may be subtle but differences in sound and feel exist from one to another. Your 4000 however is problably one of the best pieces of gear ever made and it is capable of emulating many things. But to understand the sound you want you must understand that it is very unique and many factors contribute to that( Programming skills , substances taken, samples used, ect.. ) and to emulate it may not be the best solution possibly find your own knock within the 4000 as it is there.

I worked professionally (daily) with the 60 for over 10 years and then switched to the 4k. I quantize at least 60% of all MIDI tracks with some degree of "swing" on everything. I honestly can't tell a difference in the feature between the 2 units.

On a side note: You can acheive a tight sound and still have a human feel if you quantize different tracks with different "swing" settings. Even if you're going for a straight ahead groove, try putting your bass at say 52, snare at 53 etc....also see what happens to the feel if you set the bass "earlier" in the quantize settings a bit...say a few ticks or so.....then check the same tune with the bass "later" a few ticks....you will find messing with these settings can change the whole feel of your song.....I notice up tempo jazz players are always a tad early, while laid back blues cats are typically late a fraction....another thing I do is quantize the MPC drums 100% and go back in with a real conga or bongos, shaker etc. for that home grown organic feel....

my mpc 2000 does just fine as far as swing goes

my M.P.C. (massive phucking cock) swings really well. i get bruises on my ankles though.
