just got an mpc1000 and pads dont work?

aight, i dont really know whats going on. im at a part in the manual right here:

1. select any of the (unused) samples in the Sq field
ok, easy
2. user the cursor buttons to switch to the Pgm field and select the pgm that youu wish to play
uhh, ok.
3. Hit the pad. the mpc1000 will play the preset program.

BUT when i hit the pad (any of them) nothing plays. I dont have headphones or anything(i gotta get an adapter to make my headphones fit into the mpc), but i can see on the screen its not playing. so wtf is up with this. i got this mpc off ebay and its in amazing condition. all the lil buttons and data wheels and shit work, but i cannot understand why this lil 3 step proccess wont **** work. help is appreciated

i don't know what manual you're reading, but that doesn't make any sense. you can't choose samples in the seq field. and nothing on the main screen is going to indicate weather or not sounds are being triggered. get that headphone adapter.

Mode, Pad 10, f4. hit pads for read out

if u dont see any change on each read. change the sens setting. how u do this will depend on your OS
