control MPC1k with Oxygen8 keyboard?

before you jump down my throat, I did search mpc-forums before postin this. I think I'm bad at wording search requests. Anyways..

can I go out and buy a MIDI cable, and go from the MIDI out on the keyboard to the MIDI in on my MPC, and trigger samples with the keyboard? If so, will it be like the 16 pads function, the same sample pitched up and down; or will it be mapped one key - one pad, with all 16 different samples? And can I map the knob twiddles from the keyboard onto parameters in the MPC, filter etc?

okay the answer to this seems to be 'neither'. The keys are mapped to the MPC in a weird jumbled way. I know I'm probably asking about something that's been talked about on here before, but I couldn't find it in a search, sorry.

Anyways, how can I straighten out the order of the keys? I went into the MIDI/SYNC page but I couldn't seem to change anything there. I mean, I could change tthe note names of each pad but the same key on the keyboard still played it. "The MIDI notes aren't laid out chromatically" I'm paraphrasing from something relevant I did find in a search. But why is that?

And also, can knob twiddles from the keyboard get sent to the MPC? Or rather, what do I do to make knob twiddles turn into filter sweeps and the like? (The 'keyboard' is an Oxygen 8, like I said, so it's more of a MIDI controller than a keyboard per se, I guess. It doesn't have MIDI in, just out.)

Not sure about the knob question, but you can play 64 noted between midi noted 35 and 98 (C 1- D 5 I think). If you use Velocity layer, you can trigger up to 256 samples (64x4 layers per pad=256).
The Chromatic issue can be solved by going into Program Mode and going to the Note Tab and manually changing each note, or loading this blank file everytime you load up (or make an Autoload folder and put the blank pgm file in there to load automatically each time), or (the best solution) is to buy the JJ OS for a one time fee of $30 and hit maybe three buttons to solve the issue.

But seriously, get the JJ OS. There is absolutely no reason to have a 1000 and not have the JJ. And I say that as a person who should've got it sooner. So since I went without for too long I'm letting you know to learn from my mistake, be smarter than me and buy it.

I'm running the free JJ and yes, of course it's waay better than Akai's silly contraption. Still, you recommend going with the $$JJ OS? I'll keep that in mind.

I really would love it if I could twiddle knobs on the Oxygen 8.

For sure. No prob. Deff get the JJ OS password. Worth every penny. If it wasn't I wouldn't say it. The best $30 I ever spent on music equip.
