Why can't I hear my midi

Here's whats up. I Have my headphones plugged into my MPC2000 orig. I have the MIDI out from the keyboard plugged into IN 1 on the MPC, and the MIDI out A of the MPC plugged into the MIDI in on the keyboard. I have the track turned to MIDI and set to 1A. BUt when I try to record a track I don't hear anything. I tried messin with the soft thru etc. What am I missing???

Where can I do that?

You will never 'hear' MIDI no matter how long you try -MIDI is a signal that sends information only - no audio travels along the cable.

MIDI tells your keyboard when to make sounds - the way you have it set up - when you press a pad on your 2000 - the keyboard will make noise - you have your headphones plugged into your 2000, but its the keyboard you should be monitoring - NOT the MPC.

Be sure and turn Local control on your keyboard to off - if you don't you could get stuck notes etc....

I'll try that tonght. I didn't even think to plug my headphones into the keyboard. I kind of a dumb ass when it comes to MIDI. For some reason i just can;t grasp it. Anything else I can pick up no problem but MIDI is a mystery to me for some reason.

Why? 16 channels over a 5 pin din cable can't be that difficult.
