Sampling Checklist

hey wussup yall im in need of a lil help here. im makin a xmas list of pretty much all audio stuff (probably wont get most of it). anyways i plan on gettin a mpc 1k and sampling from vinyl. and then tracking out to my pc to mix. as of now i have nothing except a pc with fl, reason, and a bunch of plugins. no interface, no monitors. so i was jus makin a list on guitarcenter.com of stuff i might need but im not sure if i got everything i need. i was kinda confused on if i need a preamp, and this whole talk of tone arms and needles, cartridges and stylus stuff. basically all on the vinyl side of things. i am not scared to read manuals. infact, i've already downloaded the mpc 1k manual and began reading it. is this everything i need to get started??

i jus wanna make sure that i have the minimum to achieve sampling vinyl from a mpc so i wont be stuck at home with a s**tload of records just sitting there. thanks

EDIT 2: i just drew out a diagram and realize i needed 2 more 1/4" cables for the monitors

18 views and no reply?? i thought my post was clear enough to atleast get a couple answers. i cant really do a search on it because as i said i dont know if i would be missing something. feel free to tell me if they are the right components but are crap quality and to find a better one. i need somethin ppl.

you need:

*the mpc

*records

*a turntable

*a phono preamp if you dont have a dj mixer

*cables to run from the phono preamp to the mpc. i use a set of rca to 1/4" lines from my preamp to the mpc.

*cables to run from the mpc to your audio interface/mixer. the mpc takes 1/4" cables or spdif. then it depends on your interface. mine takes 1/4" cables so i just have a bunch of 1/4" to 1/4" lines

*computer and daw

**additional

*midi keyboard

*midi cables fi you want to use the keyboard with the mpc

*additional instrument and or mic cables if you plan on getting other equipment(synth, sampler, outboard fx)

i think that should cover it. you have to figure out what brands.
my set up is this:

old technics turntable with a low end shure needle(free from my uncle)

bbe phono preamp($50)

mpc 1k($899)

presonus firebox audio/midi interface($299 i think)

m-audio oxygen 8 midi keyboard($150?)

1 synth and 1 other sampler/sequencer

thanks cozy and tony im not gonna pay that much i was just using that as a list of what i needed. im still kinda confused on the whole needle cartridge stylus thing though. is a cartridge and stylus the same thing? do i need a headshell with the cartridge i chose??

a cartridge is just a head shell loaded w/a needle or "stylus" ready to go out of the box..more particular djs like to purchase their pieces separately and assemble the cartridges themselves..it's all up to you mate..

personally, i wouldn't even spend the $100 on a brand new stanton table..all you need is something to sample off of..a functioning turntable from a garage sale would do fine..

magic carpets are thin waxy things you put under your slipmats for scratching so you wont need them (I wouldnt advise scratching with that belt drive turntable).

and if youre not going to be scratching you might be better off avoiding that "DJ" cartridge and getting a needle geared towards better sound quality. I'm not sure how much difference it makes. just make sure your turntable/cartridge/needle are compatible.

mpc and a numark ttx turntable as it has a built in pre or digital output directly into your mpc man. Vinyl and lots of it then i would just fall back and learn that gear and then when you are ready go onto your next peice. Dont rush the proces.
