Ok i recently got an MPC, and i was working with this Lionel richie sample and i probably made a mistake by seuqencing the sample/melody before actually laying down a beat

but my question is what Tempo would most hip hop style beats go under?

i have the ideas in my head but it just wont fit to the tempo i choose

i wish i could just pound out a Drumline and have it automatically figure out what i was trying to get across

basically i need some pointers to get the samples and drums to mesh together more smoothly

any help would be appreciated, thx

idk...i would say most beats are anywhere from 88-92 bpms for hip hop...dont ever restrict yourself to believing in just that...but thats where i was when i first started out and got my methods down.... for findind the tempo...i personally loop my sample first then bang the drum pattern out after.... try using the tap temp button as the sample is playing in a loop...

ex. sample is playing...you got your drum beat in your head...hit the tap tempo button everytime you have a clap/snare in your beat...do this for a whole bar or two and then you have the bpm for your sample...fine tune up or down as you see fit

well not to sound harsh but its just user error. I would try either what was mentioned above or maybe getting more aquainted with tap tempo. With time this wont be an issue to you
