midi keyboard if you are going to be playing it or you could use the pads on the mpc its alot easier to hit chords and such on a keyboard.

Wamboozi are you asking about sounds? You have to build a library of sounds in order to create anything..... Your question seems vague to me and could generate a multitude of answers, so please be a little more specific..... What are you working with, and also let us knoqw what your expereience level is....

I am new to this as well, but after reading the manual a few times and also reading as many post as I found interesting on this site, I downloaded over 10 gigs of sounds that I am currnetly going through to create programs that fit my liking... It has been alot of work and kinda frustrating, but I think the work will be fulfilling in the end.

Get the JJOS for your MPC and use "Auto-Chromatic Tuning" on any sample you would like to play like a bassline. Thats a great start.

Once you get more familiar with it you can do stuff like play the bassline on a synth via Midi, then resample it in if you want.

I also use a Bass guitar and sample it directly in while playing the beat.
