Making Beats Without Mult-track Recorder????

Okay, so I'm looking to possibly get an MPC and I just wanted to understand all of my options. Do I need a Multi-track recorder in order to use an MPC? If not, would I just go directly into my computer and use Reason? And if this is the case, then what would the advantage be in getting an actual MPC instead of an MPD? It seems like there's something I don't understand here... CAN you make beats with JUST an MPC?

I know this is extremely noobie-ish, but I just want to understand.

If you have a 2500 you can do it with jsut a MPC otherwise it requires more gear.

^ so you can do EVERYTHING on a 2500? Then just burn it or send it to your computer? And so if you need other equipment for a 2000 then how come I can watch the Heatmakerz make a beat completely on the 2000? What is the other equipment used for, just getting the samples onto the pads or what? And what other equipment would I need?

Wow you sound like you have no clue what your doing? Not that that's bad but you need to do some research before you go and start buyin all kinds of shiet you don't need or aren't gonna like and wastin your money.

Heatmakerz make a beat completely cause they already got a studio full of gear from PT to Sound Modules to Keyboards.

haha, you're damn right i don't, and this is my form of research. i'm a fast learner, but at this point i'm just a DJ and nobody i know has the money to get an MPC (neither do I unless I find a used deal)... so i just have extremely basic questions that i don't understand, like what the process of making a complete beat on an MPC is, and what all equipment plays a roll in this process... thats basically what i need to know.

To make beats with a MPC2000 your gonna need these or you can jsut get a 2500 & use a computer and that's it.

MPC
Vinyl Records or whatever you use to sample if you are even gonna sample
Speakers or Headphones
Computer
MTR

Thats what I was gathering... alright, well I've got all of that except for the MPC and MTR.
I'm thinking about just going with an MPD24 and some software though. Any advice on that?

I prefer to use hardware just because the sound to me is better and computers are just to buggy.

Ahhh ok...so with a 2500 you don't need records, turntable, mixer etc to make beats like you need with other MPCs...now I see. You opened my eyes.

My bad I meant that you won't need a computer or mixer with the 2500 if you don't want too cause it has DR just like the 4000.

I thought the 2500 had the Pre built in like the 4000 but it doesn't so you will need a mixer. You also don't necessarily need a TT if you want to sample from CD's cause you can just sample from the CD Drive too. My Bad!

As a bare minimum you can "make a beat" using an mpc, an amplified audio source, and a pair of headphones. The amplified audio source can comprise an mp3 player, a cd player, a turntable (with a preamp), your tv, the radio, anything with an audio out or headphone socket. Hell, you could even buy a mic and hit some pots and pans!

Do your research and use your imagination.

You mentioned plugging into the computer and using reason.

Reason is not a recorder it is a softsynth.




You could buy any MPC. Then you find things to sample put them into the MPC and chop them up. Then you make a beat. Now you have your beat, but if you want to make the beat into a track or a song then you would need to record the MPC into something. A hardware recorder or some software (Cubase, Protools...).

oh worrrrd, thats what i was asking... so an MPC has audio outs on the unit itself?

and so i could put a sample from my computer onto the MPC, make the beat, then send the beat back to my computer on a flash drive/cd drive, and be able to open it up with Pro Tools, Cubase, etc?

and thats for any model basically? 500,1000,2000,2500,3500, etc?
