How to receive midi

I have my mpc hooked up to the keyboard and i can play the keyboard through the mpc pads. Want i want to do is play the keys off of my keyboard. I have read the manuel and it still doesn't help me. What am i doing wrong? I have the midi in of the mpc to the midi out on keyboard. And i have the midi out to the midi in of keyboard. Any suggestions???

also midi out (the one you want to use as a controller) to midi in (the one you want being controlled)

In your current setup you'll probably have to use the keyboards' Local On\Off feature. But if you have a onboard sequencer on the keys that you're relying on, then the best method is determined by you as far as which machine will be designated the "master". The master device will always use midi out only. The recieving or slave device will use midi in. Subsequent additional midi instruments can be "daisy chained" by using midi thru starting from the first slaved device in the chain\network to the next devices' midi in/thru an so on. Also, you'll have to understand your midi tracks/midi channels so that you'll be able to set 'em up properly and do work-a-rounds with 'em...like stacking instruments using the same midi number but on different channels. Take the advice and read as much as possible. But from your question, what is the purpose of the mpc being hooked up in the first place if all you wanted was to play keys? Is it that you want drums to play along also? If your answer is yes, then follow the above layout and you should be good.

Thanks for the advice. The reason I want to play keys is for the bass only. I do all the sampling in the mpc. I just want my keyboard for the bass. I have had the keyboard for a while dont want to get rid of it, hence the reason to keep it. I called Roland, the maker of the keyboard and they told me I need to have both local and remote off inside the keyboard???

i have a problem with midi. i know its not sound but how can i record bass or melodies from the keyboard to the mpc. when i try recording the beat i made with the mpc into my computer i cant hear the melody. i only hear the drums. do i need like a mixer or something because i only hear the sound from my keyboard. ive been trying to get an answer to this for months but every always tells me the same thing. read the manual. yea ive read a bunch of times for the last 5 months and i still cant figure it out. i sample thats what i mostley do, but i want to make my own melodias as well. i hope someone can help me. i dont wanna be told to read the damn manual. im tired of that. thank you.[/b]

Are you using a daw program? Something that sequences & tracks audio and midi? This along with a small audio/midi interface will cure your ills. TWEAK HEADZ
