Setting up MPC to Protools

When I record MIDI from the 4000 into protools I can record fine. But when I play back the track in protools I don't hear anything which is fine, because I know that MIDI isn't audio. My question is, how do I get the recorded MIDI events to play audio?

My current setup is as follows:

MIDI OUT 003 rack --> MIDI IN MPC 4000
MIDI OUT MPC 4000 --> MIDI IN 003 rack

MPC 4000 Main Out --> 003 rack Analog 5-6 Input
Main Out 003 rack --> Monitors

When I try and play the pads I can't hear anything. I have assigned samples to the pads, but I can't hear anything with the way I have things setup. If I go Main OUT MPC to my Monitors, I can hear the samples fine. The thing that is block it is the 003 rack. How do I route the audio going into my 003 rack to the monitors? I have spent hours trying to figure this out.

See my other post about the IM request. You dealing with two different issues that may or may not be related. Solve the audio one first, and like I was suggesting in the other thread, get it to play some audio, then be able to monitor your mpc, etc.

I figured it out. I was using a MIDI track in protools instead of an Instrument track which is the reason why I wasn't able to hear the mpc while playing.

Quick question. When I record the MIDI from my MPC to the instrument track to protools. Should I make the instrument track stereo or mono? Should I use the left or right channel of the MPC for the input of the instrument track or just use a stereo track?

it depends on if you have a stereo or mono sample, that dictates which kind of instrument track you should use.
