Need Help Connecting MPC 2000XL & Korg to My Computer Set Up

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone can help me set up my MPC 2000XL & Korg to my computer. I tried to midi my Korg through my mpc and then the MPC to my Lexicon soundcard that is usb connected to my computer.

I'm trying to use cubase to send the midi notes through to record my beats from my mpc to track up, but nothing is picking up. Not sure if I'm suppose to use a mixer in the set up or not, but if someone could please help me figure out what I am doing wrong or what equipment I an missing in my set up.

Okay...
You said the Korg is connected via midi to the MPC, and you have the MPC connected to a usb sound card on your pc, right?

Well if you're trying to record midi notes from the MPC or slave it to your pc you'll need a midi to usb adapter. I use Midisport Uno, 39.95 at Guitar Center.

If you have a midi to usb adapter, check connections, then check settings on the MPC
and pc daw. (Also check the midi section of the MPC manual )

I actually have one of those adapters already, but I don't think I have it hooked up right. This is what a guy at work told me. He said that I should connect my korg to my mpc in and out on A/1 midi spot in back of mpc, then my other keyboard through the B/2 midi spot on back of mpc and he said to run a midi cable from the thru midi slot from my korg and to run that cable in the out port of my Lexicon soundcard interface.

I hate to sound elementry, but It the only way I know how to explain this stuff. Now if I plug in the maudio uno adapter that you said I need, which port do I put it in on on my soundcard interface? and after I connect it, I still will have one of the midi ports open on the maudi adapter that is not being used. Is that how yours is or no?

It's a midi to usb adapter. It connects to the usb port on your computer. Not to the soundcard.

No, no ports should be open on the midi adapter. And no that's not how mine is connected.
What software are you using? Anyway..

Here's the typical connections: (MPC is the master of a keyboard, but is the slave of the pc daw)
Keyboard Midi Out --> MPC Midi In (B)
Keyboard Midi IN --> MPC Midi Out (B)
**Now Midi notes from keyboard can be recorded to MPC.**
MPC Midi Out (A) & MPC Midi In (A) is where the midi to usb adapter is plugged.
The USB end is plugged to the pc.
**Now the MPC can be controlled by the pc daw, but is still the master of the keyboard**

After all above connections are made, the midi settings on the Keyboard, MPC & computer daw
have to be correct in order for this to work. This is where the manuals for your various equipment
come into play

Okay, that really helps how you broke it down. I will try it that way too.

I actually got it going with the Lexicon USB interface soundcard I have. Not sure it is doing the same thing that your set up will do, but it seems to be going okay.

I was able to midi my korg to my mpc in the A/1 midi slot and my DR5 to my mpc midi B/2 slot. So far I can record audio, have not tried midi yet, so that might be were my current set up may cause some problems. The interface I have also has two midi slots in the back, so thats why I got confused about how many midi ports I was suppose to have left.

I really appreciate you helping me. I have been trying to figure this out for the longest, but never could get it to work. So, thanks again. I maybe in touch with more questions. I hope I'm not driving you crazy. Thanks again.
