im looking for a new laptop to run multiple daws such as Fl and ableton, im wondering what the specs should be: processing more than 1.83GHz??, RAM 2Gb, 3Gb???, hard drive 160Gb, 200GB??

what would be a good laptop to buy

the stronger the better, I'd say at least 2.0ghz core duo 2 cpu, and 4GB Ram. 7200 rpm hard drive rather than 5400, but you also got option of getting external HDD to not bottleneck internal.

most laptops nowdays have speed step technology, bad for DAW based system. basically what it does is it regulates your cpu's speed to preserve battery life.

I was runing ableton live 7 and battery on my 1.6 core duo 2 laptop, with 4GB Ram and it was glitching hard, popping occured, freezes etc. Recently acquired second hand macbook 2.2Ghz, 4GB Ram and had no problems. I got it cheap too..

if you go pc route make sure it dont have speed step, or if it does it can be disabled.
