I can play recorded samples that i've recorded but I can't play the samples that come with the mpc. I just got my mpc from a buddy of a buddy and would sure like some answers on why I can't play these internal samples. They show up in program mode under note but when I hit the pads they won't play. Please help me out!
-cheers.

he is probably refering to the stock samples that come with the newer mpcs 1000 + 2500 (dunno about the 5000) and are stored on the cf-card. normaly the same sounds are in the internal memory and are set to autoload so you have some sounds in the machine to start jamming (sort of) right away.
do you see any question marks at the sample names? this means you have a program loaded but the actual samples are missing or did not got loaded. just go to trim mode and look if the samples are there and if they play - if not ask your friend if he has overwritten the internal memory with some of his own samples - and then just load the samples from the cf card.
if you didn“t get the cf card go to akais website and download the stock sounds for the mpc 1000. these are the same sound samples that came with the 32mb cf card. somewhere in this forum there was a link floating around to the 128mb version of the stock sounds which akai included to the later units.
