maybe you can advise me....

i would like to record my beats from the mpc to the computer. first of all i've heard that this is possible with a mixer, right? i have no experience in that...is there only a special type of mixer that can be used for recording to pc? what do i exactly need for recording my songs from my mpc2000xl to the computer?

i bought a y-cable and i would like to use ableton live 6 to record my beats to pc. now i have a question: how do i setup the settings (mpc and ableton) that recording in ableton 6 will work?

You can always try something simple like the Gemini I-Key. A friend of mine uses his to record mixes onto his computer. I'm using it to record straight from my MPC, to my normal Vestax 05 mixer, hooked up to the I-Key, and then USB to my laptop.

I take it that you're using your stock soundcard, hence the statement about using a "y" cable. I doubt if you're going to get any viable pro sound from that.

My experience with those type of cards have not been great, that's all I have to say.

you can get mixers for pretty cheap that function as standalone analog mixers, but also have a built-in USB or FireWire sound card... Allen and Heath Zed series, in particular. good price on those, and if the sound and EQ is as good as the A&H DJ mixers, then rock on
