living legend Arthur Baker's bio. some history

i was check out some stuff Arthur Baker and i found this bio, he has done much classics and some records are damn near impossible to get ,i can name one right off the top the top of my head.

anyone seen BATTLECRY - BY ROCKERS REVENGE i have been lookin for this since 84 and i have never seen it or heard that it was released on 12" but i have been searchin and researching this record all day , and i have found out that it's a holy grail of hiphop and is only a promo it's on streetwise but there's no stated fact that it was ever pressed on that label on the back of the beatstreet album (the yellow one) it say's it is courtesy of streetwise but i can't seem to find anything on it.i dont care what it cost i want this record and i will find it .

just because i have been loookin for it for so long and i just now have begun to research it again and i have found out things that i wouldnt otherwise due to the internet,

but i ahve alot of his music and he is one hellaof a producer he's on my list of people to meet before i die list now two people left so far.

any info on this would be highly appeciated

Baker is a legend....and a true pioneer.
He definately took remixes to the next level too.

Hell yeah, Baker was real influential.

man label politics sucks, there was problems with afew releases .

AB also put out NEW EDITION's first record CANDY GIRL in 83 on streetwise but i think it was not released till 84 on MCA on there telephone man album because of there name , man some really shiity stuff happen back then not that it's stopped.

i think this was what cause the label streetwise to go down, they still put out a lot of great music, and some that they didnt.

absolutely love streetwise. they're the cornerstone of most of my dj sets. john rocca, domintrax, stylistics 'lets go rockin', colonel abrams. the only song better than 'walking on sunshine' is 'set it off'. dancing to walking on sunshine in central park!!!! it doesn't get any better.
i never saw the battlecry record in ten years digging in new york. the accapella from 'the harder they come' is a useful little tool.

heard arthur baker dj a couple of times in recent years -- totally sucked.

how about those early prizm releases, like 'love game' and 'spaced out'. they go well with streetwise tracks.

Not to threadjack... but I ran into Mr. Baker down in London on the tubes about 4-5 years ago.
I was looking at him trying to figure out where the hell do I know this long haired guy from and was staring at him for awhile.
He caught me looking at him and he said in a loud American accent "What the fck are you looking at?".
I expalined to him that I knew him from somewhere but just didn't know where. First he asked me if I was American and then asked me if I was a DJ. After being puzzled by the question I said yes to both and he started laughing then told me he was Arthur Baker. I was bugging the Fk out!!!!
He told me he moved to England and opened a soul food restaurant/club near the A40 in London and has been there ever since.
I told him who I was, what I was doing in England, shook his hand before he left the train... and that was it.

JUKE MAN , THATS GREAT . those encounters always great especially when it's some one you gave alot of money too buying his records and all. and in the places of all places huh? away from home.


not all producers are great dj's and not all dj's are great producers.

but it's not the dj it's the music that they play that makes the dj IMHO
