I feel you on this. Where I live, I got only three spots to hit up for records. Its only when a collector's convention comes to town is when I can really feast on records.

Lately the internet serves me well, but you gotta grab the records when its cold or else they become demanding and prices get jacked up. So far, I've seen many LPs that cost 3 dollars, went up to $60.

Hey there, im not trying to start any beef or anything but I want to explain that alot of the good old stuff out there isnt available in a cd format, there is a certain feel in vinyl records and alot of good stuff still out there that can only be hard from that vinyl, so I just wanted to get my point across there, but I see where you are trying to get to and I also agree somewhat with your opinions.

Easy -

Vinyl is the best option if it is abundant in your area. That would mean it's cheap, there's thousands of titles (many not availble in any other format), and then you also get that added benefits of being able to use the pitch controls, scratching, etc...

If Vinyl is expensive in your area and there are no good titles (especially rares), then...well yeah, using it's pretty much just for show at that point.


If there were a place I could find thousands and thousands of CDs that play through, many being rare, and are only $1 a piece, better believe I would dig through it...but there's not...so I go to the vinyl store that does have all of that.

Vinyl is awesome because it's cheap, abundant and easy to work with.

If it's not cheap in your area, there's only 5 crates and they all suck, and you have a bad TT setup...then that changes things.

The part of my post u quoted was from a solely hypothetical standpoint. I wasnt takin anything away from vinyl at all , i love sampling from vinyl, but there are TONS of ppl who frown upon sampling from anything else, when that shouldn't be the case. if u can find samples worth taking from vinyl , thats great, but if u dont have the means to sample from vinyl , that shouldn't stop someone from sampling all together. i completely agree that there are things u can find on vinyl that isnt available on other formats, but at the same time, there's just as much on other formats that isnt available, on vinyl, the point i was making was, Dont sell urself short if u cant get ur hands on vinyl at the moment. Sometimes we dont see the bigger picture. All the best.

By all means do what you have to do to make your musical vision a reality. If you cant find what you want locally where your at, try searching the net for some bargains i.e. Dusty grooves. discogs etc...Ive found tons of stuff for fairly cheap from these sites when all my other efforts failed and that was my last resort. But most of all, dont give up the search! The hunt/search is atleast 90% of the thrill and fun in all of this. Personally I just cant get a rush that good from downloading an MP3 or ripping a torrent, not to mention that the sound is inferior and overall the product is meant to be disposable, I say NO to mp3's But again thats just my preference, nevermind that and just do you!
Also if you feel you have enough sample material to work with to make something decent, just be content with that. While the time passes, just check back periodically at the local spots that you usually go to, to see whats new. But in the meantime just start making some beats

I live minutes from LA and theres dozens of spots for records.
I also got some great resources for records.
My girlfriends parents have u\hundreds of records which I borrow.
I also got my school library with thousands of records.

These sources have saved my pockets.

Just got back from estate sales saturday, hit up some garage sales too, got some diggs for real, 5 hard back jazz sets from 1945, each containing like 5-8 records, for a dollar each, and got some 78's too. 20 bucks for 30 + discs. dont lose hope dude, theyre out there.
