Reminds me of when I used to work in a record store in N.Y. and this Japanese guy came in there looking for vinyl. He had the same lightning flip that the guy I encountered had (maybe it's a Japanese thing). I remember we had some crap club record on the Next Plateau label and he was going crazy for it. The record was in the cheap section ($3.99) and he saw we had 3 copies and he scoops all three. I see that he's buying 3 of the same crap (imo) record, so I tell him I got about 20 more copies, and he takes all of them. The record must've been big in Japan or something, cause he was more than happy to buy 'em irregardless of cost. Luckily for him, he scored @ $3.99 per.

Yeah I was in one of my spots in Cleveland diggin, and saw one of my friends who also produces and you could feel the tension in the air as for who would come out with the best records.

that's like dropping in when surfing. i tell people it's not on. it became much easier for me to intimidate other diggers in new york after 'trainspotting' came out. yanks often have trouble telling the difference between an australian and scottich accent. i just start speaking like begby, say 'cnut' a few times and the place is all mine -- maybe they were going to the car to get their handgun and shoot my ass. lucky i'm a fast digger.

one place i was digging, there was also a japanese guy -- the owner asked me not to tell the japanese guy that he was charging me $1 a record, while the poor japanse guy was paying $3. but he was buying to resell, i was buying to dj with.

I actually ran into 2 guys that said they were beat makers. They were picking up the same old sh!t that has been sampled too many times.

Being that they're hip hop records (no secrets), I let him look through them. He finds that I picked up Noreaga's Holiday Jumpoff II double red/green vinyl (Blood Money 2 & 3/Oh No Remix/Play That Sh** Remix), Ghostface Supreme Clientele Instrumental, and some other stuff. He asked "where did you find those"? I tell him "aw man these were the last ones". He offers me $25.00 for the Noreaga, and $50.00 for the Ghostface. I tell him the Nore is a double and he says ok, $50.00. I take his cash and continue digging. He passes me in the racks, and goes to pay for his vinyl, and leaves. So I go underneath the racks to the secret stash, and pull out the records I sold to him and put 'em back in my pile.

This happened a few other times at that record spot (not the same guy), so whenever I'm diggin', and I spot a Japanese/Asian guy, I know he's relentless with the vinyl.

Is that racial profiling??

I ran into some Japenese dude like that too. Youre right they are relentless with the vinyl. I had the same experience but I was like no you can't look through my pile.

i never meet other beatmakers when i dig... it is strange because in my town theres not many spots where to buy cheap records, but seems that vinyl sampling is not practiced by many producers here...
so i'm lucky enough to choose from many records without hurry
