hiphop sampling

look for solo instrumentals like a classic guitar riff or piano where you can capture individual sounds and start on a basic 4/4 to sample, then jam to it with your preloaded drums. easiest way I would say. and its ok to think outside the crates, i.e. itunes which has every genre of sound. thats the beauty of the mpc, it records everything.

If you aint hitting the Electronica genre up.... do it... endless and not alot of people tap into it. I happen to listen to Rock and Electronica alot...

Also keep a note pad handy and write down names of songs and points of reference... that's what I do. I never really sampled much until I got my MPC, Its fun to flip something.

I sample 99.99% from records. I did pick up some CD's that are India music for dirt cheap. ( they have great sounds to flip. )

One great place to find samples is movie sound tracks. I've been playing around with parts off Predator..... Like it was said above, anything can be sampled and turned into something fun.

Just don't feel like you have to make a classic everytime you make a beat. It takes a long time in most cases to start cranking out good sh!t.

Whosampled.com is a gold mine for coming across your favourite Producers and Sample cats tracks to find out where they got their goods from in the first place!

The best thing is to be as open minded and open to as much music as you possibly can be.
Which may sound like a terrible record to one person, when chopped, stretched, reversed, pitched n' rearranged may end up being something quite special!
In all fairness its all down to having a good ear, Music Theory helps but its not a necessity.
You may have also come across it before, but if not, Google the software 'Paulstretch'.
Its Freeware and it can do some magnificent things which Im sure nothing else can even emulate nor touch!

I'd say sample the music that you like the most, no matter what it is.

Hip Hop sampling is like MAD magazine when they take a movie and make it a parody. Take a Buddy Guy record and make some Blues Hip Hop or be inspired by kung fu flicks and make a beat about it. Its all about making it into Hip Hop and giving homage to the original source, to me thats what Hip Hop sampling is.
