In this documentary all the old school producers show their love and passion for digging, and how much finding a sample or break is important to them.
Pretty much all of them were DJ's back in the days, and being a good Hip Hop DJ meant to have that great break that nobody had yet.
But then that passion turned into business and some people would start going places and drop thousands of dollars buying whole crates without even looking what they were getting, burning the ground for all the others.
same story for those records that would get famous only because some big HipHop artist sampled them, thus making their prices rise to the roof.
They also said one thing though: those with the passion for crate digging, will keep on looking, and will always be able to find that hidden gem for 1 buck, in some dusty crate. so keep on digging no matter what, just don't let the big money (for better or worse) drive you away from your passion.
I couldn't agree more with what they all said. Crate digging is a passion first of all, a love for music. It came from DJ'ing and it evolved into sampling and then into producing whole songs.
But that love for the music you find when you go digging is still there, it's something that will never be separated from HipHop.
