Filter?

Ok, so im samplin off of vinyl, but I need a piece of equipment that will allow me to turn down/get rid of certain sounds in order to keep other sounds to use. I guess this would be a filter. But I dont know exactly if it's called a filter or not. And what is something good that ya'll have found helpful. Thanks.

Gonna just have to work on your eq/mixing skills. There may be fx filters that help as well, just depends on how you are recording/what software you are using.

What I usually do is sample the sound off vinyl dry then run the sampler output through a filter or other fx to get the sound I want. Usually what you will want is to run the sound through a high pass and low pass filter using the same source sound. This will lower your memory requirments and allow you to tweak the sound without having to resample it many times. My setup right now is a MPC60 with a Electrix Filter Factory. I have to play switchboard operator now if I want to filter several outputs so I might go with a MPC 3000 sometime in the near future.
