most of the time my portable never leaves my home setup. its my only talbe rite now...and lately i've been gettin tons of records at a time, instead of digging and buyin at a store or thrift shop.

when i do get to bring my babay out, i usually have to rush through listening to what i wanna listen to. either im with someone or the store owner looks at me funny.

i need to just get out one day ALONE and dig to my heart's content...but the FIRST thing on my agenda is gettin myself a set of 1200s (just got a 2 channel mizer--free...needs a fader, tho.)

if i only had some cash

I used to rock a portable and it didnt save me much money nor did I pick up better things. If you're going to flees or places with one dollar records, why not just use your intuition? If you're going to a place with a nice selection already, they probably have a listening station. The only time it really came in handy wass when I hit up a couple of wharehouses. But that was twice.

Besides, you dont really want to be one of those a*sholes at the flees that pick up 100 records at a time, listen to each for five seconds, buy ten and throw the rejects on the ground, do you?

(I was at a flee this weekend and I looked through this one's dudes witha portable reject pile. Like 100 rekkids, and it was totally random. No concpetion of what anything was.)

I gotta agree with issues and simcity.....

It hasn't come in as handy as I wanted it to. I've used it a few times but have also been rushed and looked at funny, or told you can't use that here. It has saved me a few times from buying bad records.

The only time I really used it was at the guys house. He was selling all these records for $2 each, so I just sat there for hours with it.

I guess they are good to have but not something you must have. I got mine as a gift so it's all good.

The thing I hate is this cat charged me 20 quid ($35) just to use my portable tt  . He said just in case I scratched up his records while playing them. Thats why I did a sleeve swap and gaffled his @ss for some of his records.

It has definitely upped my digging game, i pick up better stuff, less filler and more keepers, plus I already start forming ideas of the beat I can make before I get home. Its nice to come home with 4 keepers that I know I liked and know I can make a beat from, then taking home 50, and fiding the 4 I could use, hours later during the listen. When you start running out of room in your house because there are so many records, this will make a lot more sense.

Saves money, saves time, makes your digging all business, so you have more time to get creative later.

If it becomes too stifling, dont bring it with you, but its good to have, especially when you are travelling away from home.
