numark pt-01 sounds... like ****???

soooo-- yesterday igot the ultimate collection of 1920's to 1940s jazz 78's

about 180 records for 15 dollars -allperfect condition- zero skips - i'll put some info pictures and other crap up on em411 sometime for people to check out --causeit is mindblowing - BUT

theyre 78s - so i needed a turntable tha could play them -- someone recommended me the numark pt01, and i was just goingto get a shitty old table but i decided to go with the pt-o1 because i didnt want to wear out my records with crappy old needles -

when i was checkin out atthe registar with the thing i noticed it didnt have phono out -- so i asked about it and the dumbass tech dude really didnt have an answer -

but now ive been listening to records and enjoying them over th little speaker -- but when i plug the thing into my motu or the mpc it just sounds like shit -- no low end - really heavily pronouced crackle -- terrible stuff -

i saw someone else mention this in the mpc1000 section so i figured i should get some opinions


is the pto1 really this bad - or is there anything that can be done about it??
should i just take the **** thing back and demand a refund?
is there anyother affordable table out there that can play 78's??

i really like the little thing, but if i can get better sound out of a differnt table than i thinkim going to have to go for it -

try it with LP's 33 1/3, and 45, 78's sound like shyt generally.

i have another turntable for all those -

the 78's are all im concernd about playing

Co-Sign. That's just how they sound. Don't expect to hear any low end or good fidelity at all on these.

the portable joint isn't the best for 78's, look for some old audiophile TT built for them. 78's also require a different tone arm weight, check your manual see what it says on playin 78s.

i'l look into the tone arm thing buttttt-- theres really nothing on the thing to adjust it


BUT - the 78's sound **** amazing -a huge part of what attracts me to useing these discs is the sound of the recording matirials -- ive been listenng to old stuff like this my whole life so i know the sound -the problem is that the line level is not producing the sound that is on the disc -- the sound is wildly exsentuated - as far as im concernd the line outputs are not appropriate for any kind of musical/professional use - none of my albums sound decent out of them

im going to keep the thing cause the table is fun -- but no -- the thing is not appropriate for sampleing

i think im just going to hold a damn condensor mic to the speaker of the thing --

I sampled 45's on the PT01 and is sounds mad dope! old skool flavour! I love the thing man!

If the speaker sounds OK-ish, then the line out should sound even better.

I'll be looking into a PT01 myself; for sampling, believe it or not. In the studio I've got my SL1200s and TTM65, but I really should get out more So I'm looking to get a portable setup - I might get an MPC1000 or use the SP303 or MPC2000xl that I already have. My main concern is a portable turntable, and the PT01 looks just the ticket. I'm sure the line outs won't sound as good as the SL+56 setup, but I don't think it'll be so bad as to be unusable.

78s just sound thin and crackly. The tiny speaker on the PT01 is probably flattering to this type of sound, but put a 78 on a hi-fi turntable with good speakers and it's still gonna sound nowhere near as full as a well-pressed LP or 12".

By the way, does anyone know what the battery life is with the PT01?

mane aint nothin wrong wit the pt01 ive had it bout a year now and i was gonna buy a stanton to sample but the pt has been doing just fine i get great quality outa mine just my 2cents
