Reccomends for Jazz/ride breaks??

What should i be on the lookout for as far as good ride cymbal breaks. Artists, cuts, etc.

cymbals are the hardest thing to sample cause youll almost never get a clean ride, crash.
but i think rock and jazz have the fattest cymbals

there's styles of swing jazz that have a lead ride at the front of the rhythm section, almost as loud as the melodic instruments

look for vinyls that feature solo drummer performances, get the cheap throw aways not the Shelle Manne boxed set because there's so many ways you can freak a cymbal sound you don't need anything fancy (necessarily)

a lot of music from Latina America and Afrika with have more complex rhymic expression, often with cymbal breaks, crash interludes, syncopated drum line "batucada' (Brazilian). Look for soca, axé (Brasil/Afrikan), samba, salsa, merengue, chicano funk from l.a., baile funk, or carioca funk *(Brasil), afro cuban jazz, psychedalic dub mixes with flanged hats and other effects on the hi-end

fela kuti & afrika '70 had the dopest hi-hat riff you should peep that just for listening pleasure

percussionists to look out for: bernard "pretty" purdie, mike clark, shelle manne, buddy rich, idris muhammad, roy haynes, elvin jones, weldon irvine (vibes tip) pitch a vibe up and turn it into a hi-hat

hi-pitched sounds are dope cuase our machines produce those kinds of sounds naturally a lot of the time anyway

If you dig for a clean ride cymbals, try ride cymbal sample from Lou Donaldson's "Pot belly" song. Classic, still usable, or "Hobo Flats" by Jimmy Smith - jazz is full of that.

I feel you on the ride sampling drumtrack and no i don't use reason. Looks like i'm gonna have to break down and buy a sample pack.
