Sampling from the Television

hey i was wondering when you sample from the news or a tv program just someone saying something, a cartoon character or a news broadcaster- do u have get a clearance on that stuff???,



Ive heard allot of artists sample from the TV and i cant believe that MF doom, Dangermouse, Madlib etc actually clear those samples?? - i mean if thats illegal isnt that economic suicide- with all the suing and shit?

Do you ever run into troubles with sample clearance? Nah, I'm not on no big label. We ain't no Def Jam. Somebody might pay attention, but not yet. And I don't sample no Rick James or shit like that.

But if you sell a beat to, say, Common or Busta, you're going to have to clear that, right? They're going to have to clear it. But half of the time I can't even remember the record I sampled! When I make beats, I just pick a record up and go. A lot of times I don't even look at what it is.

I think officially, you'd have to clear it like any other sample, if you want to use your song commercially. Maybe not a news reporter, but definitely stuff from TV series or such. But anything you don't make big money from...never mind.

theres a lot of differences on this topic i thought too you can sample off TV but if it's not your own noise or piece then yea you would have to clear it .

but then again thats if your going pop radio ,
thats why i stay underground to keep it alive a nd fresh like it should be
