Static

Yesterday I was scrathing a sound on a record for about 5 minutes straight and then it developed static. I know this is supposed to happen after a while, which is why I'm confused. I doubt it has anything to do with the way my cartride and tonearm is setup. I have the standard DJ setup:

Height: Optional 4-5 (I chose 5)
Weight: 3
Cartridge: Mounted at the rear of the headshell
Anti-skate: 0

BTW, I've searched about this and all I learned was its natural to gain static over a sound.

nothin to do with ur needle/cart/tonearm..

any record will develop abit of static if its scratched enough.. like when you buy a brand new break record(or "scratch" record) the sounds will be clean at first, after a few months if you use it alot they will be dulled down abit with static. thats my 2 cents anyways

true but i think you have your tonearm set to heavy to be honest i 'm about 1/4 or half of your settings still get it but not as quick , then again if your just starting off it going to happen because your well starting off.

plus another thing is it's cheap vinyl , i notice this happens alot on rca 45 the orange label ones those seem to be cheaper then a red label rca dont know why it just notice it .

clean the reord every time you put it away or start to use it , not that it will help none but you never know it might help out .

oh and lighten up your needle on your table.

i use 21/2 weight
2 on the height
skating is norm
cart setting ? what you use the old style cart's i like to keep mine in the front to a 1/4 on the headshell.

I think I figured out what the problem was.

I re-balanced my tone arm and made sure it was extra perfect, then I cleaned the record I was using. Just to make sure that everything I did worked, I scratched the same sound for about 30 minutes and it's still brand new! Hell, it's better then 5 minutes.

the height of the tone arm depends on which needle/ cartridge you use.

if yours says 4 or 5 do that. ede, you can't tell dude to put it on 2 because he might not have the same needle as you.

you basically want your tone arm to be even horizontally.

JM i have had the same tech12 's for 27-28 yrs and i have been scratching on them just as long and i never use the hieght measurment and i have never had this problem inless iwas using a used up needle so i was just telling him from what i know if you want the correct and exact thing to do go to one of those scratch sites and lookin it up , i use both a statons and trackmasters and a club and they all work for me never had any problem.
