great deal i'm trying to set up

yo this is time consuming compared to my typical style of digging but it's good for me.

in the past, i dig by listening to "dark spots" on records where less is going on...i never really listened to the whole thing unless i really dug the style and sound of the music. this way, i flew through records and grabbed all the open samples i saw, but it was bad because a hurried approach is not ideal when it comes to digging. you sell yourself real short this way, of a lot of music and inspiration.

also, prior to this, i was taking out records from my school library. unfortunately at this point i have really exhausted the library's collection of super-usable records. i've gone through the entire world selection, the folk selection, and the "contemporary" selection. they're not wonderfully organized, these records. now, for the last year and a half, i've been going through the classical music section. you know how that can be, way too much powdered wig sht that belongs in a country club rather than a hip hop show.

this has prompted much of my current sound - sampling classic. it's good for some sounds, but it's time consuming (lots of garbage, not much jackable stuff).

i like the sound, but it's not all i want to do.

so i've started digging for money, now, that is actually buying records. the nice thing about the library was that it was free. also, i had to give the records back. i'm a student, i don't have time to move records, or collect em. at one point i had close to 1000 but man they took up space. got rid of all those and did the library thing.

so i'm gonna go to tape and record exchange and swap em out. i'm gonna try to set up a deal with the owner and be like hey, you can tax me for this, but here's what i'm gonna do. i'll buy your sht, listen to it, then bring it right on back. this manager there uses a sp404 and he's a friend of a friend, so i think it should be cool. i'll probably end up paying something like 10-20 dollars a month for a great supply of samples. they have tons of nice sht in there.

also, if you have a netflix account, search for "how to play" instrument DVDs...THAT sht will keep you busy, son.

good idea, i wonder if other record stores would do the same thing. sounds like a lot of trust is involved

You talking about the shaved head dude with the beard? I was in there one time and asked him "what was that record you were playing prior to .... I really liked it" and he thought on it for a second and was like "ohh that was some shit I made" So I'm assuming it was that dude.

Only problem I see them having with this, and could be cured with a report built up by yourself, would be that records are fragile. They don't want you taking it out scratching it up etc. Perhaps this is why you pay the fee, for 'insurance' or something on the wax.

It's a good idea though, personally I enjoy vinyl (on many levels, that I won't go into here) but this seems like something that could realistically be done by record shops if they ripped the vinyl before putting it up for sale, and then licensing out copies of the digital-high-bit-rate rips.

it's still stealin, your just puttin yourself in more trouble if you get caught...comin from a record pusher, i wouldnt buy them back at the same price and you would have to pay the price thats on the record NO discount, the store needs to make money for rent,supply's and more records for you to sample.

in our store i can transfer record to cd but you have to purchase the record and own it , before i can record it for you , this COVERS MY ASS, it's CALLED" PIRACY" and they can take my sh!t not the consumer's...it's covering our asses as a record store.

i dont know about stores in your area..but it prolly wouldnt work around here.but then again what do i know?

not to many of my customers come in to get stuff recorded they rather have the real vinyl and i have many type of customers

from kids to old old people 80 and up
