Mixer or Phono Preamp?

so I'm about to cop uno Technics 1200 and need to keep the remainder cheap, at least for now....is there a cheap mixer that won't affect the sound too much? I don't scratch and generally get dudes that do, that have their own setup, to hook that up. So is somehthing like a phono preamp ( http://www.phonopreamps.com ) better in this situation?

a mixer is probably the better option since it should give you quick access to basic EQs... you may find yourself wanting to kill the high-end on something your sampling or whatever... who knows. and there are cheap dj mixers out there all the time for under $100... i'm sure if you check your local craigslist or whatever you can find something for cheap.

radio shack has some pretty decent mixers to use as a pre amp.

if your not looking for a scratcch mixer then this should be fine,
all you want is the sound to be boosted (hot)enuff to register on the sampler!!

I use a phono preamp i scooped on amazon for like $27 +/-. Works fine.

ha! I think I just fixed my shit...I'll find out tommorow, but I took my (stanton str8100) apart, tightened some shit up, resoldered a few shady looking connections and it's sounding better...real test tommorow when I try to sample something again...

Just incase you didn't fix it. I've used stereo recievers and have owned 3 mixers of various quality, all realitively cheap (i somehow always get this stuff for free). Anyway, they all sounded the same pretty much, it seems like the difference between a low end and mid range mixers are just features. I don't think you would see much gain until you bought something really nice.
