heh

just wante dto ask if thats normal or if i am crazy...

i pull out 100-300 samples out of EACH single record i sample, i even when i think "what a boring joint"

well but i do multisamples... i pitch every good sounding brass/flute etc into 16 different samples to be able to play em later on mpc or keys, instead of just boring looping all the allready used phrases..

just thought i mention it since there seem to be cats here crying that they cant find a single sample pon da record

putting a sampled loop pon a sampled beat-loop is not makin music imho... t´was nice all the years but its really kina dead i think

not only hiphop, there are dozens of downbeat tunes wich are 95% based on some old jazz tune.... shouldnt there be more creativity involved?

sorry idont wanna sound wise or such...

peace

300 is a hell of a lot if youre getting open/solo instrumentations

EDIT: i didnt read that bit properly

300 ÷ 16 is about 19 chops from a record

I believe it. Most LPs are 20 to 40minutes long and you're only sampling a couple of seconds off it. Do the math.

I remember sampling an intro and bridge of a song. I pulled out like 16 different samples from that one song.

But to pull off 300 samples from one lone record you must be sampling everything and anything without thinking about it and choppin' it up.

well yes its like the math mentioned above but in fact its 300 : 8 .. i was wrong with 16 i take oly every second step of the 1210 pitch once in 33 rpm once in 45 rm

the thing is i noticed you really can do very good and natural sounding multisamples of brass or similar sounds like this.. try it ;)

AND YES it takes a hell of a time to get through a few records.. and YES in the 300 there are minimum 30-50 error-takes wich i retook

i just wanted to say you can get so much out there.... i do this in an archive kind of way at the moment, also because i sell some records afterwards again..

but well to be fair... i have a hard time getting anythign usefull out of 80s records  i just cant satnd that sound (speakning about disco, funk, motown) different with other genres...

but all that electric stuff... naaaah as soon as a record has something 1980+ on the back i loose interest quickly... always the same freakin Roland? Kick and tempo...awful : )

but back to topic.. to "prove" i dont tell shit ... theres a Bombay 2LP Funk sampler i recently bought
its KILLER because every few seconds in a song a new instrument, melodie, riff starts.

i got INCL. ERROR TAKES exactly 512 samples out of it

nope but i make my own unique beat and not just loop for the 100x time some jazz-funk ting and layer some funk drumloop underneath....

i just wanted to say that sampling doesnt have to be passive like that but you can make your very own melodies with amazing sounds taht no sample LIBRARY could provide you with

oh damn... to prevent confusion... dudeeeeeessssss... i am not smapling directly into the MPC because i do so much sampling these days

i use a soft called WireTap Studio... very professional and for mac..

its just too much hassle to sample this amount through the mpc itself...

the samples getting chopped ligthing fast in the WireTap and go perfectly organized and named through USB to the mpc

i figured thats the easiest and most efficent way to do it for me

first just samples... after spending time with them further.. mayb very useable

just imagine... i see 4 options:

1) the very best: Have some good instrument players... nothing beats that

2) sample whole phrases/loops/melodies... one problem: many allready in use, legal rights, not really a too creative process if you not totaly mess wit it and do something very own wit it.

3)sample libraries/onine samples ? 90% = ??? static

4) chop the single hits out o (for example) brass riffs that you like in the first place, but even if they are boring riffs... doing 8 samples (pitched) out of each note on some riff with lets say 3 notes gives you a good palette to do your own melodies WICH FIT YOUR OWN MUSICAL SONG idea!!!!!! your chords etc and not the other way around...
you can still capture some natural played fast note variations in the riff and use em again for that OWN played melodie...

so far thats mostly theoretic for me, at the moment liek i said i am archiving ... i hope the outcome is as good as i expect it... but i think so.... killer vibraphone single hits stacked with orchestral hits all pitched up to fine sounding multisamples

work yes, but worth it imo

i just thought its worth to discuss this, i dont wanna sound smart or anything

You know, those Sun-Ra records you can pull out alot of samples. My girl bought me the 'Strange Strings' album on cd before she left to med-school in Santo Domingo. And man! As crazy as that album is, you can find good samples every other 3 seconds. I don't count how many samples I picked off it but I can say at least 40 or 50. I think you can break that 300 with some Sun-Ra

sun ra is king anyway ;)

mr. 4 eyes.... WHY useless??? my initial reason to ask and talk about this was a question to check if i am doing something wrong etc (i didnt sample for many years anymore until i got the mpc recently)

so if you say USELESS you also have to say WHY

thanks

because there's no point to what your doing. your just collecting random samples that probably are not usable anyway because your just letting some program chop them up instead of actually listening to the record and chopping out the good parts yourself.

and you act like your doing something so creative and everybody else just takes loops and puts them over other loops.

you don't know what your doing really. you're just wasting time. make a beat sometime.

you're bragging about taking 300 samples out of one record. big whoop. i could take 1000 out of a single record but it wouldnt matter because its pointless.
