dilemna for me and others im sure

okay, i've whiped out the flea markets, the goodwill store, everyplace around my city that has records. i've been able to pull a couple luther vandross, kc and sunshine, and some dionne warwick, but now there are no records left in town...hasnt been for a good 1-2 months. all christian and country. my real dilemna is that now i have to resort to mp3 sampling, which i dont mind THAT much, but honesly i feel like im disrepecting hip hop by doing so. but its my only way to sample. you would have never caught Dilla sampling from youtube like i do, but what am i suppose to do?

any one is the same boat as me?

Save up some money and go to a bigger town, I have excatly the same thing going on here in Galway, one secondhand store has about 6 crates and then there is like 1 and a half crate at a bookstore.... I end up going to Dublin or dig when I am back home on holidays lol

Also look around at garage sales. I swooped about 100 great condition albums for $80 off a old rock radio DJ. He looked like he was going to cry when I took them all.

Sometimes garage sales are worth the stop.

Records are not the only thing you can sample, and frankly anythign is betetr then sampling that overly degraded audio from youtube videos.

Sample your DVD/VCR, get a mic and record sounds and mangle them. Get reissue CD's if you have to

run some ads in yr local paper (or craigslist or whatever) saying that you'll take old boxes of records off of people's hands.

sometimes people on here think too damn much.... some of us dont realize, there was no standard in hip hop, you made due with what u had, and that was it. We try so hard to keep it true to what was done in the past when it was fresh and new, and we cut ourselves short... there is no rule for hip hop...NONE !!!

Lets just say Marly Marl didnt accidentally sample that snare off of vinyl.....lets say CD's were the platform back then and the snare he accidently sampled was from CD .....do u honestly think people would care about sampling purely from vinyl because it's the "Hip Hop Thing To Do " ! No...Cuz then the "hip hop thing to do" would be to sample from CD's.

NEWS FLASH ...... MPC's WERE NOT.....i repeat ...WERE NOT intended for hip hop in the beginning.

So before u start thinking ur disrespecting hip hop because u cant sample off of vinyl the "HIP HOP / DILLA WAY", heres a better question.... Wouldn't it be disrespectful to the culture that taught us to " do whatever you gotta do to get it done ur way" to not explore any and every avenue possible to get the best final product you can get ?

Dont sleep on those christian records . It sounds like your in a place that probably has some dope rock records too . Sounds like youre a heavy sleeper .

Don't overlook the private press Xian records -- found a crazy one a couple years ago from the 70s where the band had a Moog and was really funky.

Plan a road trip -- or relisten to what you have for inspiration.

listen to what you bought , thers many samples on those records,you just have to TAAKE THE TIME to sit and listen over and over thers so many ways to to get different sounds off a record,theres one shot's stabs phrases,drum rolls other instruments.
as far as cleaning out your town could be possible,just dont forget it the places you lose out on some gems is near your home, people are quick to get rid of records but theres always that collector thats ther to pick it up just as fast, diggin involes going out of your area to look for records,you got to fiind a way to other towns or cities to dig,ther to is involved in this game,i have heard theres many places to dig for records theres somany out there, i have never heard i dug out my spots theres no more records to collect ALL DONE!!!! WTF?? if your a true digger those words such never come out your mouth,theres places you never even thought of that has records,i have foudn records in some small places you never even thought they would have records.

as far as sampling mp3's what ever,you have to do what you have to do to survive right., i dont do it personally ,but i have done it, i just perfer vinyl.like Fung45 said

start sampling cassette tapes and other formats.

tapes are great, i still record to tape,i also have a vhs recorder and player in my studio..that i havent used in a while but it gets used too.i also sample reel to reel record on to it then sample back.

trust me you havent put anyone out of business buy buying all there records there will be more,just keep diggin those spots.
