how do u tell?

how do u tell if a record is an original press? ive been tryna figure this out for the last 7 or 8 months ive been digging..

and dont say by how it smells

i got a sealed tribe album sitting in front of me and im wondering whether i should open it or not

Give us some more info other than "i got a sealed tribe album"

Most Reissues....the artwork is scanned so it can get a little blurry from the original.The matrix numbers are a good way to tell and also if i'm not mistaken older issues(original pressings) the label is "sunken" in.

and of course the obvious one, a barcode.

ATCQ was reissued alot pretty much if you didnt get one when it first came out it's reissued.,but you never know you have to reseach it to find out what tells it apart from a reissue if it is ORIGINAL press.

most of the older records you can tell by the inside cover back in the days they used a more cardboard (brownish color inside)feel to the cover much thicker then a reissue.reissues from the 80's had white covers ,the cover inside lokos white yellowish if still in good shape. there a number on the runout groove too that ells you if it's Original or not, that mostly depends on the record in question, then again you have to research it. discogs.com is a great place to find out about your records or goldmine too.pick up record books.

another way of telling i hear is what is scribed into the inner most groove around near the label..........this is usually (i think) some reference to the plant or press and other identifiers

look up the inscribed code located by the label on discogs.com

if you paid a 'reasonable price' for a sealed tribe album........its a reissue

It got a barcode.. So i guess its an original!

Older records didn't have barcodes.

Reissue or not..it's ATCQ. It's worth the same $$ as it was when it came out, so open the damn record.
