New twists on played out breaks...

I'm refering to beats being made with what I call 'top 1,000' breaks. Basically the 'top 1,000' breaks are those breaks cats done heard a million times, stuff you'd find on UBB or hear on a 'classic' radio station. I've heard my share of complainin about 'so and so used that break from____' or 'you can't do that so and so did it on______.

Now personally, I don't give a f*** who used what when. Cats used the same sh** over and over in the late 80's early 90's and some of that sh** is now considered classic. Anyway, any of you cats flip a very well known break, but twist it in a way that made it still recognizable, but different enough the way it was freaked that cats can't hate on some bi*** sh**? Post links to examples if you want but it ain't necessary....

Take a break, open it in Recycle on yer PC, adjust the sensitivity slider of the sample and break it up into lil sample bits, save then assign sample bits on MPC Editor program, save on a Zip for the MPC, load .pgm and voila... create yer on masterpiece. Well, at least thats what I do.

...but I didn't really need tips per se...I was just curious if I was the only madman flippin well known sh** into bangers. I know other cats will always use whatever breaks are around(UBB 2 copy reissues in abundance these days ), who's really twistin sh** up??

youre not the only one. There are ten thousand people doing that.

yup im one of em. And its easier in recyle to set the grid in veiw to 1/8ths and then apply the slices to grid in process.

Me too, funny was listening to Mantronix - King of the Beats recently which has got so many dope breaks its untrue, all old but all definitely banging..

Just think about the number of records that used the 808 or the DMX in the '80s. I'm talking about two sets of drum sounds, not 1,000. Everyone was just forced to find their own take on it, or their own way to freak it.

...'I don't want an 808, I want a D-M-X'...I'm a trip.....Anyway, yeah, Prince really had to work new combos on that 80's sh**. Erybody had that same old kit back then. Mary Jane Girl's was a nice try on imitating live drums, but the kit gave it away, the reverb wasn't enough to throw the hounds......

well instead of this being about if we do it or not, lets talk about a little technique. How do u flip old breaks? drop some knowledge and ill drop a little.

allright here's something i did with some old ass breaks i dont give a phuck who did what with what , all i now is i did this and i dig it , it's mostly for my personal use, might use it as a interlude in one of my CD's
