In the defense of some of the people here, they may not know the names, but they would most likely recognise the tracks.
Without a portable, digging (can be) very much a visual pursuit, and if you don't have any cultural reference for these artists (if you wernt around at the time), something you heard on the radio is just that, and not something that you can correlate with an record sleeve.

I guess the counter to that is, part of being a digger (or rather what comes with the territory) is being able to put those sounds to a name, through experience.
