and ability to carry off/out more records digitally is a plus.
Your a digger rather you dig in crate or dig in code.
Real diggin in a pysical record bin is WAY MORE FUN.
If you download something from the net, somebody must have dug it up before.
The sound quality differs, can be better on the net, especially if it's a losless cdrip compared to an old scratchy record, but is often lower on the net because many people use 128kbps mp3s, poor recording technique, overcompress stuff etc.
You can find stuff on the internet that you'll never find in the real world, but you can also find stuff in the real world, that'll never appear on the internet. Both cases are the exception, most stuff that is sampled can be found in the crates and on the net.
For me the biggest advantage of downloading is the saved space in your home, that you won't need to store your records.
Biggest drawback of downloading stuff from the net is the huge amount of records. You really need to discipline yourself to listen through the stuff patentiently, not just skipping over it. The temptation is huge to just download another album. If you have a limited amount of cash that you can spend on records, you spend more time listening to them automatically.
I dig in the real world because it's fun, but it doesn't make me a better producer. You can create the same results with downloaded stuff, as long as you use good quality downloads.
