try this,
record it as clean as possible with the setup you have, then if you have studio monitors (or even any speaker system your using)resample it (making sure that your not monitoring the mic or input) by playing back the recording and using the mic near the studio monitor.. IT colors it quite interestingly...
I do it for all sorts of drum hits when i want to color or dirty it up...
